Mufflers for Dummies (tm)

I'm considering a fun project of creating a bit of a better sound for my 997S Cab. I was thinking of getting a used set of OEM mufflers and hacking in (might use this as a 'learn to weld' project - or have the final welding done at my local shop) a bypass pipe as cited in another thread.
So, does anyone know where I could get a really (like REALLY) good deal on a used set of 997S mufflers?
Alternatively, a used PSE system for the same car would be attractive. But it would have to be inexpensive.
Finally, anyone know if the mufflers from a 2007 GT3 would work for a project like this? Are they PSE's?
Thanks,
Verde

Verde, are you anywhere near San Jose? I'm interested in much the same thing for my 997S cab. Thinking about the Gundo hack or some new mufflers. Maybe we can get a mini-group buy up and running! I'm not bothered about HP/tq gains, this is really only a pursuit for a better sound. I'm thinking about the Afterhours muffler, I like the sound but worry it might be a little too loud when you're not on it.

I have seen a few used 997 mufflers on Ebay... PSE mufflers themselves are not that expensive but combined with the required wiring the setup can be costly.

Yep, near Palo Alto. But this wouldn't be so much a group buy as it is a group 'hack'. I'll gladly buy the beer for anyone who would provide a good welding demo. It's a technique I've long wanted to learn (and I know that one demo does not a welder make).
I'd appreciate if folks on the forum would keep an ear out for a to-be-discarded stock muffler set (or two) so that the work can begin!
Thanks

Three questions with this hack:
1) Will it lose any power Hp or Tq?
2) Is there any resonance throughout the entire range?
3) Will it void the factory warranty?

Thanks,
Jon

Muffler mods for dummies - 2.0

So, I'm under the impression that this fellow does excellent work:
http://fistermetalworks.com/Porsche_Stuff.php
Apparently well-respected on the muffler mod. I've read that there is no resonance or added vibration. Anyone on the forum have experience with his mod/product? And the ceramic coating?
And I don't know how it affects the warranty, but I suspect it doesn't - other than the mufflers themselves. Comments here?
I'm interested in getting this going.

I've heard the hacked mufflers, and they sound pretty good in person. Still, OEM mufflers weigh a ton compared to FS or AH. My pipe fitter in ATL can do the hack for $50.

Most likely void the warranty for the muffler...but the radio warranty should still be good.

Here is the gundo hack:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ste-money.html

Here is a thread on the PSE bypass
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...er-bypass.html

The 997 GT3 exhaust cans are different and are tuned to the 3.6 engine (from the old GT1 race car) so even if you got some they wouldn't work well.

I personally did the PSE bypass with a 2" pipe and it sounds fantastic. No drone, no resonance. I cant feel any difference in power (gain or loss) but it doesnt matter to me.
I showed my local OPC at service last month and they were impressed. As "jhbrennan" said, they said no muffler warranty but everything else is ok.

Do it on your own exhausts or get some from EBAY (you're right to choose C2S rather than C2 as I believe the internal chambers are different)
