A Little Story

Ok so Ive posted on here about my 2005 C2S Cab having battery problems in the last couple of months. So after a new battery installed and trying to drive the car more often (even though I cringe driving on salty roads) to keep the battery charged. The other week I went out to start the car after driving it the day b4 and NO GO . I was WTF so I was going on vac the next day but I ordered the trickle charger when I got back from vac i put it on the car NOTHING. So I jumped the car and it started drove it around like I stole something and came home put it on the charger next day it started ok, but I made a appointment for my car anyway at the stealer for 2day. Started up this am no problem get it to the stealer.

Im home maybe a hour or so and my phone rings its the stealer but its a sales lady and she says would it be ok to appraise my car and maybe trading it in for a 09 on the lot. I said yea thats fine. She calls me back a little later and says the same ol stealer quote"We want your car its hot we can sell it" "Would you come see me when you come pick up your car" so I said yea y not. Im thinking they have to be starving right now and now I have a itch 4 a 09 . And I didnt even drive one. I have serious issues.

Anyway the service rep just called me and said my car is drawing 10 times what it should and its dissassmbled and they are working w Porsche on it and he will call me 2mrrw. So what do I do???? I hope they cant fix the car and its a LEMON so I can tell Porsche I want a 09 . I just wish I could be satisfied w what I got. Ill keep you guys posted on events hehe

Ok, so what we are all dying to know, really dying to know, is:
What is the dealer offering you for your car on a trade for an 09?

Interesting. I've that dealers don't want anymore trade in cars because they can't move the new ones that are sitting in the showroom. Wonder what they will offer you for trade in value? Something in the lower $50k's?

My guess on the trade right now is mid-high 40's depending on miles, but they are probably sitting on a few 09's that they'll knock 8-10% off on.

Ok guys a update. Im pretty pissed right now. I havnt even thought of looking into a 997.2 right now. My service guy called me and said the K 40 Radar detector is the problem for the draw. The installers wired it to the cold radaitor wire which is live all time instead of a accessory wire which goes on w the car is on.

So i went to the dealer its in pieces and the worse part ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY and im 695 effin dollars in the hole already and the car has to be put back 2gether so prob another 700.

What would you guys do w this. Im going to go after the ppl who put the radar in. I bought the car preowned w the radar already in it and i couldnt get service w the dealer i got the car from because they are moving and couldnt get me in for a week. HELP PLEASEEEEEEEE

Not that familiar with K40 - is there an on/off switch or light that would tell you it's on when ignition is off??

I would go after the people who installed it - you might have to go to court to get it sorted out though.

Bummer!

That is why I am always very leery to have 3rd parties work on my cars.

What would I do in your shoes? I would use this opportunity to negotiate the car you really wanted which is the 997.2 . You can always rationalize that "it was time " or "it would never be the same" or "I knocked the repair tab off my cost" .

Not that any of this would matter when you drive your new car home.

Yrralis haha u r a BAD influence. I hear u though man, im just nervous right now as to what this bill is going to be when he calls in a bit . Its not like its something that is the car its a accessory that was on the car when I bought it and its basically throwing money away for stupidity on installing it wrong. This could be my money for my Softronic flash

I'm disillusioned with the plethora of strings on battery / alternator / discharge issues in these cars. And my new 997.2 hasn't even been delivered yet! A day doesn't go by without some poor guy posting a "HELP, my battery died" plea.

Porsche needs to notice at some point that they're falling way behind less, um, arrogant carmakers in the battery and ignition area. Don't they have an EE on staff? How hard can it be if a Honda Civic starts first time, every time for years and years, no matter how you abuse the battery? Put an engineering team on the problem and eliminate the problem, I would think. But I'm just a dumb American. . .

Same thing happened with Leica cameras, another of my hobbies: Leica just kept telling us that the whole digital photography thing was a passing fad. We all know how that turned out.

With all due respect you do not have a clue. If you follow most sport cars forums, you read about battery depletion. Modern cars, particularly those loaded with a lot of accessories (some call them doodads) use a lot of current. To compound that, many are not driven enough, often short trips during which the battery is not charged enough to compensate for its load and starting discharge. You say that batteries should be bigger? are you willing to accept more weight? I'm not.

Solution? Be smart how you drive your sports car. Be mindful of its electrical current usage and charging. Drive longer and/or use a battery maintainer.

BTW... a Honda Civic is typically driven daily longer distances and the battery has a chance to recharge.
