Most wings look Goofy on the NB.
yrralis, im not sure what your name is (im shawn), but you are one of the first people to answer my questions on this forum before i actually even made my purchase and i know you have tasetfully modded tt.
to answer your question, i wouldnt put an aero part on my car unless i knew it would properly work at high speeds. i attend some fun runs and you'd be better off coming to those with the Goods, else you might end up in a ditch.
in one of my earlier posts, i asked in someone elses thread if there were any wind tunnel tests of the various wings everyone was putting on their cars and didnt get a straight answer.
so, i need form + function. but i wont put an ugly a$$ wing on my car just because it gives good downforce. in that case, i prefer to stay stock. but if a wing can look good and perform, i could do with that.
the 997 aero kit is wind tested by porsche and it has 'zero lift' so imo is probably the best option for the car.
i dont know if techart or any other aftermarket company has pockets deep enough to fully wind tunnel test aero kits despite what they may claim.
what i do see a lot of is just rear wings and no, i wouldnt do that unless i made arrangements for the front as well.
i actually do drive my car near the limits at times and i dont want to fly off into the weeds

Techart does test their materials . They are expensive but they are also very well made and they do have variety .
And lastly --if in doubt remain stock but keep in mind that if you are adding more HP it has to include suspension and aerokit upgrades to accomodate a balance . The result may or may not look pretty but one can always try that too.
With all that said, the application of wings that are designed for track use is another thing as they are designed for functionality first and looks second. In that arena you'd want the most functional wing you can find for the way you're going to use the car. Again, this is only one man's opinion.
i have been looking at a bunch of wings both in person and online for the 997 Narrow Body.
most all wings seem to over power the rear of the car and look too tacked on or too much of an after thought imo.
about the only wing that does look right is the factory GT3 wing because its shorter and doesnt cover the hips of the car from one side to the other.
the ones that really look out of place are the GT2 style wings on the NB.
wide bodies on the other hand look good because their extra width in the back can 'carry' the the size and width of the wings and still show off their hips and lines.
i saw a 997S with some type of GT2 look a like wing and from way behind you could tell somebody just threw that on there after the fact.
an actual GT2 or turbo on the other hand look like they were made for each other.
i think it would be best for most 997/S owners to enjoy what they have or go for a gt3 treatment. just about all else looks goofy and i hate to say it, somewaht fake.
all this with all due respect, ofcourse

I completely concur. I will never add a wing.
I drive cars at track events, DE's, autocross event once, some spirited rides etc but one time had a real race car driver take my car (with me in it) on the track (a new car in his hands, not at all familar with it) and it was a humbling experience....up until this point I thought I could drive...thought I had driven my car to "the limits" etc but I was sadly mistaken,,,,, He proved that I have never ever drove my car nearly close to it's limits. Uless your professionally trained or have TONs of track experience I dare say not many have driven their cars to "the limit". To the limit for a second or two is not driving at the cars limit....drivng the car to it's limits (any car) is doing such in a totally controlled manner.....otherwise it is just wreckless driving. We have all done it, not chastisizing anyone for it...just making a point is all.[/quote]
This is very much to the point. I have now done a couple of track days, and I have been humbled several times. I push myself to get the line faster and faster, but no matter what you do it doesn't work unless you have the time behind the wheel on the track. By the end of the day, you're running the track and the line better but you are also tired, I have even give the wheel to my instructor and although not a professional driver a very sckilled driver in deed and boy it's humbling and they take care not to push there student's car too much. Also when it comes to modifications, you don't need much, but when you're prepared and have that extra suspension and breaking working for you you have that much more control and room for error, imho.

Awesome write up and exactly why I always suggest doing track events. I am so glad you are learning how to drive your Porsche. The true limits of these cars totally stock are amazing.
Me too. Especially if it has a 'track' setup to it. I don't dig it with bling wheels, but if everything else flows with it... Well, my opinion is obvious. Here's mine.
