New Member + A Question or Two
Hey Everyone,
New member saying hello to the Porsche lovers at 6 Speed online!
I've actually been reading these forums for a while but haven't had anything to say!
I'm getting very close to picking up an '09 997 C2S Coupe and wanted to get some thoughts and opinions.
Honestly, nothing drives like P-cars - they truly are in a league of their own. I've had my share of German engineering from an E39 540i, E39 M5, W209 CLK55, W211 E55, E60 550i and now the E60 M5 but it's time to get rid of the V-10 monster and jump into a car that just feels so much better.
I had a chance to drive an '09 997 C2S + PDK + Chrono two weeks ago @ Rusnak --- What a car!
The PDK really makes me hate the jerkiness of my 9 mpg SMG even more! I'll miss the roomy leather of the 5-series but I've had enough BMW
BMW and Mercedes are just NOT what they used to be. They're mass-produced vehicles that are every other car in Los Angeles, the craftsmanship has gone down from the early days and I've lost a lot of faith in both companies.
I'm beginning to understand why Porsche has been building the same car for 40+ years. Hopefully, I'll be understanding this for many years to come.

I'm looking at two cars: one is Meteor Grey + Black Leather the other is Basalt Black + Beige Leather. The Basalt is still in port and hasn't arrive at the dealer.
I love everything about the Meteor Grey except that it doesn't have the multifunction steering wheel (oh well) and EVERY car I've had has had black leather. Every one!
I love the beige but feel that black isn't my favorite color, however, I haven't had a chance to see Basalt Black in person yet. Black is still black though.
Both cars are about $105k MSRP.
Dealer is offering $5-6k due at signing, 36-months lease, $1600 / month.
Your thoughts on the #'s?
Your thoughts on the color choices? (this one is tough I know
)
I feel it's probably better to pick a C2S off the lot instead of ordering one as I'm looking for a good deal.
Look forward to being a member here and enjoying a new 997 very soon!
Take care,
-Krisht

I'd vote for the Meteor Gray. Black looks amazing when it's fresh from the detailer but the rest of the time not so great. On the deal I might suggest you go to leasecompare.com and run the numbers. The site will give you current lease rates so you'll have something to compare with. I have used them twice before and have found there rates to be very competetive.
You should be able to do a lot better than that on the payment. You should be getting at least about 8% off of MSRP, plus there are certificates at the moment which will give you a great rate on the lease payment....your payment on a car such as this should be in the $1,300's with no cap reduction...just drive-off...a friend just got an '09 $104k car for no cap reduction, 2 year lease at $1,524 per month, including tax...hope this helps. She got about 7% off MSRP. That was a month ago...you can do even better now.
I got my '08, $97k sticker, in early '08 for $510/mo(36) with 30k(trade-in) down and no signing fee. $56k residual. This was before the economy got worse, so no real discount. If you figure that buying the car would add 10% for tax and title, add up the down payment, the lease payments, and the residual, the total cost of buying the car will be the same as if I paid cash that day...but I get the benifit of deferred payment by leasing

Thanks guys, I'll talk to my dealer and see what happens.
A member also PM'd me that he picked up an '09 C4S Cab, MSRP $108k, 36-months, $1900 drive off for $1199 --- that's an amazing deal.
Hopefully I can get something around that because that $1,600 doesn't sound good anymore!

Now is the time to do it...deals keep getting better and better...ask your dealer about the certificates and lease special....makes a big difference! Keep us posted on what happens. Good luck!
Porsche has cut production to reduce dealer inventory. I don't think the deals will get better and better for too long...as the supply comes down to match demand.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Porsche produces around 11,000 cars / year (all models included)?
That's pretty low compared to MB and BMW with 300k cars each.
I'm trying to strike ASAP!
Waiting to hear back from my dealer on the #'s, I'll take that Basalt Black or the Meteor Grey in a second for the right price.

I worked with my dealer for almost 2 months. It's easy to do on the phone...you can't get hooked. However, if you're not on the sale floor, they don't look at you as a "lost sale" if you walk. There is pluses and minuses. I remember hoping that my car wouldn't be sold as a negotiated and waited. But as time went on and the car stayed at the dealer they came closer and closer to the numbers I wanted. When they hit them, I went in and did the deal.

I vote for Meteor and also vote against leasing the car .
1) Black interior is easy to keep clean . Meteor is a gorgeous color and looks amazing with some brushed Hre's . Basalt is neither here nor there --it's ALMOST black IMO.
2)Excluding tax - 1600 X 36 = 57600
Plus 5000 = 62600
You have practically bought the car PLUS in thre years you have to give it back , fix it to their lease return spec and pay disposal fee.
105000 - 10 percent = 94500 and you can keep the car for as many years as you want , drive it any amount of mises you wish , and be done with the dealership sales the day you drive it home.
PASM is a plus .

All true, but if there is a tax benefit to leasing for the individual, it makes a huge difference...if he/she is a small-business owner, the tax deductions can be drastic and any accountant would urge he/she to lease....of course, if not, it just depends on how someone wants to tie up their cash....it depends on the individual circumstances.
I agree with on the $1,600 per month being too high, yrralis1.
I'm trying to get this down to at least $1,300.
And JCBH nailed the hammer on the head, tax deductions are a major part of why I lease vehicles.
Any thoughts on the extra 10-mm lowered Sport PASM? I agree it probably is a plus but...
In Los Angeles, we have to deal with some awful roads (go figure, in a city that has more Ferrari's than the rest of world we have disgusting roads) but with the new P-car I'll have to re-think the right lane of Sunset BLVD and our other lovely pot-hole infested streets.
And I love the Meteor, just want to see the Beige on the other car since I've always had black leather!

Don't worry about the PASM...just watch out for the potholes
I got the wheel and tire insurance from my dealer and that will cover any pothole damage...wheels and tires are protected fully...just drive and have fun!

The saved tax deduction would only apply for the three year term but with a purchase if one kept the car three more years he pulls ahead . Keep it 9 years he's way ahead . The short term monetary gain does not account for the long term financial pain of continuous leasing .
