is it bad to engage traction control?
Is it bad to engage the traction control on my 997? I like to slide around quite a bit in my cars and havent really dont it in my pcar, but i would like to start. Is it bad to engage the traction control so keep me somewhat under control?
"Traction Control" is PSM, it is always on, you can turn it "off" but it is still there to save your a$$ in the worst case situations.
You can turn PSM off and have a lot of fun, makes sure curbs and other objects are far away. Your back end will come around very quickly.
I tried it at a wet track day last year, we shut the track down and did a skid pad test, and it takes very little to get the car to do a 360!

haha, i crashed a porsche a LONG time ago as a kid because it didnt have traction control and I was being ****y. I learned my lesson VERY quickly!!
My question is... is it bad for the car to engage the traction control. As in... If I take a turn too fast, and the traction control "saves" me, is it doing any damage to the car? I know in some cars it kills the ignition, some it engages the brakes, and in others it kills the fuel. I would think killing the fuel to an engine would do harm to it!!

Like the saying goes...
"Its not the fall (skid) that kills you, its the sudden stop (curb)!"

only harm i can see it doing being on is the fact that it does apply brake in some cases and that is why when people get a flat tire and they continue to drive at a high speed to where the tire completely fails the car senses slip and applies brake and this will eventually overheat the brakes.
if you ever watched that show with the fat puerto rican guy and his customs shop in NY (cant think of name right now, using his characteristic to describe and not to discriminate) anywho, he got a flat on his CLS and continued to drive @ speed... when he arrives @ the shop his brakes are completely fried or well i guess "baked" on the rear of the car because it sensed "slip" the entire time and applied brake/etc to stop the slip but the slip was not fixable so more and more brake just killed the rear...
now harm with it off... curbs/children/curbs/houses/cones/curbs/homeless people/other cars/etc, i think on is safer.
