I found one from private seller who did put plenty of miles on it - 43K as of now, he is a second owner as he got car in 2007 with 13K miles on it in RI and I was able to negotiate $40K price if PPI will come out clean.

Would that be a reasonable buy? My personal checks did not find anything wrong. I suspect clutch may not last long, otherwise - should I not buy any 2006 with more than 20K miles anyway, no matter what?

At dealerships CPO 2006 C2S would go for $54K and they do NOT even negotiate. Majority of 2006 C2 I saw were priced in 49K with various milage - from 18K to 36K.

So if car does have CPO on it - would it justify getting it for $40K with 43K miles on it? Again, it is simple C2, pretty much standard stock. I drove it, it runs. could not hear any rattle, car was garaged. But I think this guy has it on sale for a while now that makes me wonder I do not see something perhaps.

Could anybody give me some pointers?

 

FWIW, I bought a 2005 2 1/2 years ago with 20K miles. Other than one tough-to-debug problem that appeared right after purchase (and I did do a PPI) that was covered under warranty, the car has been a gem. It now has 34K miles and it's a great car. Only one data point of course.
