Newbie Shopping

Greetings Porsche lovers. Have been looking around for an 07 C2S as my first Porsche. Spotted one with 18K miles, CPO, with some upgrades such as Adaptive sports seat, nav, sports exhaust, Sports Chrono, full leather, aerokit, etc.

It seems most every one on the market are going for mid $60K on average. I kept on reading about people saying below $60K should be the fair price, but that doesn't seem realistic around here.

Is mid $65K what the going price is? Am I looking at the wrong places?

Any suggestions is much appreciated!

It sounds like yoir car has a lot of upgrades . Full leather , adaptives . aerokit .. these things add up . 65K he can keep the car though !!!!

Assuming a clean DME and no paintwork -- offer 57.8 and don't budge . The car really is worth low to mid 50's but I'll add a few more $$ for the amenities and region.

He'll scratch his head on the offer . That's for sure.

They wouldn't even go $1k lower! They did offer to take off $2K if they remove the CPO status (didn't even know they can do that). But I think CPO is worth more than that.

I think I will pass on this one and continue my search. But my question is, am I looking at the wrong places? I have yet to see any comparable car below $60K. I guess I haven't ran into any good deals like JC's friend's car. I'd pick one up at $56K in a hearbeat.

Thanks for the feedback.

I see it on auto trader . Meteor -Black/Terracotta ? Chrome wheels --yikes -- let them sit with it collecting dust for a few more months . I think you did the right thing .

What do you think of this one in your region . Lower miles /completely stock /family guy lists reason for selling . Suburban home . Looks like 56 may work and you can add yoir own mods with time . http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

I actually just ran across that same ad. Thanks for posting the link. Would not having the CPO warranty worth the savings in price?

If it's an 07 it's still pretty new . I have an 07 car and I am not worried about warranty that i bought new . Not having the Cpo plus private party sale amounts to savings but you are in a tough region . Keep in mind that this car has 8K less miles too . The thing I liked about the car is that the owner almost doesn't want to sell it . If you pull up at his house to buy it and see a guy sad about his car as his pregnant wife and two kids look on chances are you found a good car.

You need pics of the interior .
You need a DME scan .
All service records .
Paint inspection .

Hey Larry,

Before I changed my search to a Cabriolet, I gave this car a long hard look. As you mentioned, I liked the fact that it was a private party sale, looked like the owner really cared about this car and I'm sure he pampered it (I've seen cars being sold by dealers sitting out in the elements for a long time on a used car lot and that's always a "ouch" for me). Being a 2007 gave me some peace of mind. It had lots of the things I was looking for. I think I did make contact with the seller on when the factory warranty started but I can't seem to find the email. He did respond pretty quickly.

To the OP, for what it's worth, this car has been listed for at least a month I think (to bad I deleted it off my "Saved Car List" or I could tell you the date when I first saved it).

Good luck on the search. Searching for my car was actually pretty fun.

Now knowing what DME scans are, I did some search on this forum to learn more about it. I am guess this is just hooking up some equipment to read the over-rev counter? Do dealers normally provide these DME scans free of charge?

Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions.

yrralis,

I actually test drove that meteor gray car and didn't notice any issues other than some tire noise, probably flat spot from sitting there too long. The interior is in great condition, exterior had some minor stone chips in the front and a ding on door handle. windshield had more wear than I'd like, but tolerable. I think I can ask them for service records, but not sure about DME scan and paint inspection. What exactly would paint inspection discover? non-factory paint / repairs? Where can I find a paint inspector?

Another thing that's making me think twice is the fact that this car was leased. We all know how people treat their leased cars.

I wish I could PM....this 15 posts limit is driving me insane.

Ok --good info on this thread .

First --Joe -- thanks for the input . A month is not a long time to sell a 997S but it is 1/9 of a pregnancy so that may be a price incentive . You and I like the same cars .

Steph -
The car at the dealership might be great but its overpriced . It's not worth 65K and thev fact that they would try and remove CPO is shady . The car either IS a CPO or isn't . Plus I look at those chrome wheels and think two things :1) heavy and 2) younger buyer into "show instead of go" .
65K on a two (almost three) year old car is close enough to a newer car . You can get an 08 for close to it and just last week someone posted an 09 demo with 1K miles and PDK at 75K . The car you are looking at is priced out of the market . Sure --the dealership might feel that the options are worth extra .. but not that much extra .

A DME scan can detect engine over rev history . This thread explains it https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-over-rev.html

A dealership inspection is not free but its not expensive .

The main reason why I picked the black private sale car is because you liked the 56K deal and I like low miles , an owner who cares for his car, and black paint . I can look more but you are picking a tough price range .

Looks like Larry's got the link for you to take a look at. The DME scan was VERY important when I was looking. Here's the report on the 2008 C4S Cab with just under 7,000 miles that I just picked up recently:

DME:
Range 1: 168
Range 2: 45
Range 3: 3
Range 4: 0
Range 5: 0
Range 6: 0

Not free of charge but part of the PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) that I, as the buyer, paid for. The local Porsche dealer charged $255 for the PPI.

Thanks to Larry and Joe for the great tips.

That black car does look attractive. I may just have to drive down there and take a close look.

So based on what you said, $56K is actually pushing it for this black car? What would be a more realistic price?

As for the dealership inspection, can they be trusted to provide an unbiased inspection report on a car they're selling?

I think 56K is a respectable offer if the car checks out clean . Check the rear tires too . 10K miles might mean replacement is soon . He's asking 61 and doesn't sound like he wants to sell it .

I'll peek at others in the region too . That's only one car which caught my eye at your price target.
