Hey guys,
just wanted to say hello. Snooping around on the forum i learned a lot, but still have some questions unanswered.
1) is there a big difference in the 05 and 06 c2s? From what i read not much?
2) has anyone actually have had any mechanical problems with there 997s? Or is there a common problem most people face with the car?
3) And where do you say is the best place to drive in NJ? HAHA.

Currently i own a Modded 2008 335i, 2007 escalade, 2007 harley davidson F150. Wonderful car, but i want a nice weekend car which i can also drive daily sometimes.

Some advice from a guy thats owned a 997.1S for about six months now.

1) Decide who you are. What do I mean? Will your ego be damaged if you buy a standard C2 over a C2S? If not then buy a standard C2. For the same money you can get an almost new 08 C2 for the price of a nice 06 C2S. I bought the S because, Yes, I had to have that extra 30hp.

2) I would not buy a 05 over an 06 or later. The IMS was redesigned for the 06 model year and is supposed to be virtually failure free.....However all Pcars suffer from RMS failures, its just a leaky seal. I would say its probably just a matter of time. My advice, get a nice warranty when you buy.

3) Do you plan to mod? Porsche's are on the next level when it comes to the price you pay for performance. If you are thinking about adding forced induction down the road. Then dont by an S... the difference between a SC'd C2 and C2S is minimal if not zero. Do you want the Aero Kit? GT3 look? Make sure and buy a C2/S with the aero package. The kit does not really effect the price so its your win.

4) Finally, if what you really want is a 997TT or GT3 but you just do not have the money.... wait until you do. Too many guys on here buy a C2 and end up test driving a TT and paying through the nose to trade up. Prices on TT's and GT3's are coming down fast so wait it out another six months and the TT or GT could be yours.

1) Not much . Outside of the little CD playing improvement the car was unchanged . You won't find a major price difference between an 07 and an 05 though , 12 grand for those two years . Just the extra warranty alone makes an 07 worth the starting point to look UNLESS every penny counts.

2) I had none . First car was an 05 and kept it to 9K miles and the second was an 07 to 3K . Forum members have ranged from basically reliable cars to some which were problematic . The majority fared well but it only takes ONE (yours) to rule out consensus opinion.

3) West -- To California ..

yrallis has a good point there! (head over to cali!!!) As a fellow NJ resident, there is not much driving joy to be had. I am out in hunterdon county, and there are some nice county roads that go towards PA, as well as some nice ones that go up to the delaware water gap. Very scenic and safe to wind around. Just be careful with all the road bikes pedeling around. They don't have a chance with all the fast traffic!

This got me wondering, how much would a supercharger cost? new/used?

VF engineering is probably the most popular. However, there are other good options. A VFE system with cost you well into the double digits new. Used systems can be found for around 5K and they pop up from time to time on here.

Check out the VFE website as there is some really good info there.

But, yes, if you are going to supercharge then just save your money and buy a C2.... you will be able to give some TT guys a run for their money.

Skip the SC and take some DE classes.

The 06 and newer CD player will read MP3's, it also has a auto deactivating air bag on the passenger seat. Other then that they are the same.

The S has bigger brakes, xenon lights, PASM, 19" wheels, and an extra 30hp (3.8 vs 3.6).

Don't forget the BIG "S" on the rear!!!

the brakes look much better in red! the Chrono makes a huge difference in S, the throttle response changes enormously!
