another "for sale" advice question...
hi y'all... you guys are great... i got great feedback from this forum when trying to decide between a C2 and a C2S...
i decided that i'd give a C2S a try... so.. i've founded a potential target... what do you think...
2005 C2S, 23K miles.
Nav
PCCB's
asking $49K...
what should i offer? besides the PCCBs the car doesnt have much else. i have searched threads and people are about 50/50 on the PCCBs... some say that these 2nd gen are great... others say it's too risky because replacing or repair is so expensive...
the car is not under warranty, and my offer would be subject to a PPI through Stuggart Performance in Costa Mesa, CA. the car looks to be in very good condition... the only thing the does worry me is that it is an early production vehicle...
i'd love to get a 2006 C2S but have noticed there is a substantial (to me) price difference... unlike many of you out there, i am at the upper end of my budget already... (b/c of the kids)...
i have also noticed that prices are moving up on the 997.1's... even with more and more 997.2's out there... i passed up a few deals on regular C2 cars that are making me 2nd guess.... by the way, the delta between an S and a non-S is more like $6-8K rather than the $4-5K i intially noticed...
anyways, i was going to offer $46K... does this sound fair for the above spec'd car?

I'm in the market also and have been doing hours of research. I've seen 3 06 C2S for sale with asking prices between $51K and $53K, with much less miles than the one you are looking at. I am sure they would take less... maybe even high $40K's. They are out there.
Impressive car Marshall . I owned an 05 launch car and it was great . So good that the xenon theives liked it too.
BTW there are two in that region and the other has less miles but doesn't photograph as nicely as the one you are looking at. Do a Dme scan and check the paint.
It has no warranty so the inspection is critical .
Offer 43.5 and close at 45 K . Yep it cost 99.3K 5 years ago unless he got a discount .. I did . Not much --though .
Points of negotiation - pending clean Dme and paint-
1) Car is 5 years old
2) car has more than 10K miles
3) brakes add potential extra cost to maintain
4) no warranty
You are going to love the car !!! Congrats in advance.

Is this a 2005 Launch Car? If so it should have many more options than 'just PCCBs & NAV". It should have adaptive seats (6 spd) or sport seats (TIP). It should have full leather, Bose, Sport Chrono, heated mirrors, etc. etc. The MRSP of a 2005 Launch Car was over $100K.
I own a an early production (VIN XXXXXXX334) launch car and it's rock solid. 2nd Gen PCCB's are great. I've got just over 17K miles and they are still 'like new'. The drawback of PCCB's of course is replacement cost. If you don't plan on tracking this car on a regular basis then they'll be just fine.
Mid to upper $40K range is a very good deal if the car checks out. I wouldn't sell mine for that price but I suspect the marketplace dictates the value.
Good luck and keep us posted on your deal.

it is a launch car... so yes it does have all the goodies... i think i am feeling the $45,000 number... one of the worries was that it is approaching 5 years old. i plan on keepin the pcar for a long time.. do you think there are any other issues to think of regarding the age of the car vs. a late 2006?
Have a Porsche dealer do a query on the maintenace records of the VIN to see if all of the recalls (just a couple) were done and what other service actions were recorded. That would show how **** the previous owner was about keeping the car up to date. Be mindful of RMS although the service records and PPI will show what if any actions were taken or need to be taken.
Make your final offer contingent on the PPI.
Like I said in my earlier post I have an early 2005 and it's warranty expired last August. I considered an aftermarker warranty but wasn't sold on the terms and feedback from this board and others. Get friendly w/ you closet Porsche service manager. You'd be surprised how helpful they can be regarding post warranty fixes and updates.
Remember it's a buyers market!

46 with cashiers check in hand ought to close it . The launch car is heavily optioned . It's the best of 2005 .
hey everyone... i actually found another launch car in San Diego (so same spec)...
this one has been serviced exclusively through Pioneer Porsche. I will call and ask questions but the issue is the motor was completely replaced at 15K miles (has 31K now). The clutch and flywheel were also replaced. My first thought was that this car must have been through hell and back, but the owner indicated he's never tracked the car at all... (just a bad driver???)...
Do you know what happens with a motor that is replaced under warranty? Is it a BRAND NEW motor or is it a reman motor? Owner states there is no additional warranty on the car or the new motor. Should I be concerned or is this a good thing since there are less miles on it? Sometimes it feels as if a car has some problems, it will likely have more... just some thoughts... oh yeah, and the price is about the same as the other launch 997S that I am looking at.

oh forgot to add.. the motor was replaced after the 5th piston was burning oil and was bad... not sure what caused this... but pioneer determined the motor had to be replaced...
it is occurences such as these that make me question purchasing an out of warranty car...
people say that the catastrophic failures are few and far between... but hey so is death, but we buy life insurance, right? Actually, I dont mind small expenses for little fixes for the car... It's the $15K for new motor expense that I don't want to run into...
