Best Exhaust kit
Best Exhaust kit
Hey just wondering what you guys think is the best aftermarket exhaust kit for the money, performance, and sound between tubi fabspeed borla awe, etc
thanks
thanks
Replacing the cats with sports items takes away roughly half the silencing of the stock exhaust - the standard cats do as much silencing as they do cleaning-up of the exhaust. This means that almost all the mufflers designed to work with the stock cats will sound either way too loud or just plain horrible with sports cats. (Some do like very loud exhausts though)! The usual answer therefore, if you're looking for max performance, is to go for a full matched system (headers, cats, mufflers) as they will normally have a reasonably balanced sound and will have been developed to give good power and torque throughout the rpm band. Examples are AWE, Fabspeed, Cargraphic, FVD, TechArt, Milltek, Remus & Europipe (and doubtless several others I've missed). Using a mix-&-match approach with sports cats (headers from 'A', cats from 'B', mufflers from 'C') can end up costing a lot of $$$s as the results can be unpredictable. However several of the guys on here have combos they like. I have a full AWE system. Sounds great and the performance increase is obvious - most of the others above will give similar results.
The flip side to the above is that most of the mufflers designed to work with 100/200-cell cats will sound incredibly tame when used with stock cats so you need to look in a different direction for mufflers to use in this configuration.
For just sound, with the stock cats, Tubis are crazy - especially combined with decent headers that give an even more 'tuned' note. I had this combo ion my car and it was stock quiet at cruise and in the parking lot but absolutely insane at WOT. AfterHours and Borla also make wonderful sounding mufflers for the car and Cargraphic does a 'loud' version designed to work with stock cats.
Hope you find a system that suits.

I'm very pleased with my Fabspeeds. Mufflers only though I may someday add the headers. But cats are almost certainly out because I would not want them substantially louder.
And though I suspect that most of the exhaust systems cited here are excellent, if you seek a specific sound, you should really sample a few cars with them installed. In person. The youtube soundtracks are a start, but they really can't capture the true sound of the systems.

Welcome to 6speed...I notice you are local. I am in Playa del Rey, if you would like you can hear my setup. Be forewarned..it is quite loud. I am running X51 headers, AWE cats along with a Borla muffler. The car is very aggressive sounding and quite loud until it warms up a tad then it seems to smooth out a bit. I have had people follow me, to ask me "what was in that thing" and that they love the way the car sounded. I do feel my setup is borderline as far as receiving a fix it ticket due to noise. If you don't have your foot in it it is just a nice "purr". Once you crack open the throttle though...it sounds like a cup car.

Welcome to the six!
Best I've found are the AfterHours pipes, nothing but constant compliments on the sound- On the agressive end of the scale, mellow at idle /cruise and rips like a cup car at WOT. Throaty sound with authority. Some sound feedback into the cabin (as with most agressive exhausts) but not too loud for phone calls / normal conversation. I use my pcar for DD. I like that they remain mellow at idle / cruise for driving home through my neighborhood, no complaints from neighbors.

After putting on these pipes I had no reason to upgrade cats / headers, which is why I consider them a great bang for the buck. I'm in West LA so if you want to have a listen in person let me know.

Actually, there is NO droning whatsoever. Very subtle at speed, nice deep tone on throttle. Your best bet is to head out to some Porsche meets and check out in person what everyone has. There really is no wrong set up. It's all a matter of preference. I'd love to get that cup car sound, but then that means a full headers, cat, and exhaust setup. Something which the Tubi is not known for.
