Painting the Centre Console
Painting the Centre Console
I had my car in at the dealer to replace a flat tire a few weeks ago, and someone at the dealer scuffed my centre console, which is black and was standard on my 997.1 C4S. I thought at first it was oil of some kind because it is shiny in contrast to the matte black finish of the console. Has anyone had this part painted, or does it have to be replaced? Thanks.
If the dealer scuffed it, they should replace it. Are they denying your claim?
If you want to get a painted console, go through bumperplugs.com (forum sponsor). I picked mine up from them and the quality is outstanding.

That wheel (and the console) is amazing. BTW, is the console too 'convoluted' to consider covering it in alcantara? And/or is that too weird? I was looking at the interior of mine today and the console has a scuff or two. The idea came to mind. If not that, how big a job is it to have the console painted?
Verde --My console picture was taken at night . I have a day shot but it;s somwhat out of focus . It does look better in the sun . I know someone whose car has alcantra , leather, painted console and carbon and it looks amazing .Check it out. BTW Porsche (oem) does make a leather console too.

My center console is painted to the color of my car, Arctic Silver. It looks amazing, exactly like the pictures Larry posted. I had it done in the Porsche Dealer. It was painted and installed all for $500
Larry, don't make me want one of those $1500 steering wheels...
I've got the special wheel with controls and the triangular pad covered in leather. $700 special order option.

I have the original Porsche GT3 Alcantara Steering Wheel, looks great on the car
It is also much cheaper than the TechArt wheel
Hey sin911- thanks. Interesting. My car is Arctic silver. I'm wondering how easily it would scuff though.
How much cheaper is the GT3 wheel? I think it is still a thin rim wheel. Funny how Porsche still makes wheels with thin rims. Even more bizarre is that it somehow feels okay in the 911. I think the wheel in my M3 was 3X thicker!

I think it is around $800-$900 on Suncoast Porsche. It is a little thin, you are pretty right about that. But it is much better than the OEM Leather Streering Wheel, the Alcantara Wheel slips much less... I really am not sure about the thickness to be honest BTW...
That Techart wheel looks great. I did not like the thin feel of the OEM wheel. I bought one of the GT3 RS alcantara wheels from Suncoast but I never got around to installing it because it was pretty much the same thickness (thinness
) as the OEM wheel.
Now I have the Raid wheel in alumalook to match the console and interior trim. The only downside to the Raid wheel is the horn button arrangement.
