Burning rubber (sort of) smell?
Hey guys, I love burnin' rubber, but this is not that kind of burnin' rubber.
I'm getting a mild but noticable 'melting' rubber or burning rubber smell from the rear of the car, that comes out of the tire well area, but is definitely not tires. I've had this smell since day one... thought I'd ask about it. I reported it to the dealer and they had no issue discovered...
Is this just Porsche smell? The product of an intense engine? It's not extreme smell--it's just noticable... and always the exact same kind of smell.
What do you think? Normal?

Yeah the dealer suggested that could be it
It is an 06 with 8100 miles. I've driven it about 1200 mi since I got it. Heard the 06's had a lot of Cosmoline applied? When would it finish burning away if it is Cosmo? Does Cosmo smell like that?

If your car is an 06 I doubt it's the Cosmoline. Could it be residue from the dealer detailing the engine?
I had the same with my 996... had 40+k miles on it when I sold her and always a burning rubber smell. Someone told me it is pieces of rubber from the tires that get stuck to the cans... not sure if it's true, but I doubt the smell you have is an issue
Mine is an '05 with 32k miles. I have been worried that it was the clutch (i recently purchased the car) but the clutch seems just fine and the PPI done at a Porsche shop said it was fine. Wish I knew for sure what the source of the smell was.
