Arrow Initial 997.1 Lapping Upgrades - Suggestions Welcome

Hi All. I recently purchased a very clean Seal Gray C2S w/ Sport Chrono and Sport Seats at 10K miles. I like to do 5-10 lapping days a year and am now looking at what I should do with this new car (I've upgraded from a 2006 S4 with Alcons, Ohlins and PS2s).

I'd certainly appreciate any input from those with similar cars and several years of track experience. I don't care too much about straight line power. And although many exhaust mods might make the car sound better, I'd be more interested in the weight savings or relevant back-pressure concerns vs. a beautiful exhaust note. Ah yes... one more thing. My budget is already stretched to get this car, so bang for the buck is appreciated. I'm also inclined to stay away from BBK and Motons etc. as I'd prefer to keep this money in pocket now, and maybe upgrade to a 997.1 GT3 in a few years.

Tracks include Portland, Seattle, and um... Mission. Here's what I'm thinking so far (with some help from SCAN in N. Vancouver):

First Steps:
  1. Motul 600 Brake Fluid/Flush
  2. Maybe Goodridge stainless brake lines
  3. Pagid Yellows? (I'd like to keep the pads on the vehicle, and don't mind a little squeal)
  4. 18" OZ Alleggerita w/ R888 or AO48 (Probably after I get used to the car with the PS2)
  5. Semi-solid engine mounts.
  6. OEM GT3 Brake Ducts (Maybe)
Other Items:
  • Any thoughts on GT LSD vs Quaiffe (I know the mechanical difference)... I mean real experience/wear/cost etc.
  • Does a 997.2 LSD fit on a 997.1 car, and is this a realistic update?
  • When/If I do consider power updates, any thoughts on Plenum vs. Cold Air Intake as a first update?
Long read I know... Help is appreciated though.

Jason.

Your 1st steps are perfect and will take you very far. instead of engine mounts I suggest some Porsche GT3 Cup lower control arms so that you can get the proper front camber to take advantage of the R888 or any other R-Comp tire.

I use Pagid yellows but they squeal like a city buss on the street. swapping pads out is so simple you'll laugh! It actually takes longer to jack the car and remove the wheel than to swap pads on a 997S.

Keep an eye out on these forums and on rennlist for a set of used CCW wheels. they usually sell in like new condition for around $1900 or so. CCW's are forged race wheels and the OZ's in your post are cast but some of the best cast wheels going.

Removing the rear seats is easy, takes about 10 minutes max and will save you 25lbs. A better muffler system will save you some weight in the rear too. For the 997.1 Tubi mufflers are among the lightest.

Jason,

I think James was talking about last Thursday at Mission. Call him tomorrow and have him give you my number. It might be helpful to see a car with a lot of the mods that you are talking about.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ed, I'd love to see your car in more detail. I was at a PCA day at Mission back in June/July (with my Audi) and was curiuos about what modifications you had done. Calvin (GT3) mentioned to me that you had done... as you say "a few mods".

I'll get your number from James when I get back in town (away on business this week).

Cheers,

Jason.

All my friend did to his car is wider wheels (they are heavier than stock) and stickier tires. He's been faster than anybody else, which was evident in a ride-along (Evo IX).

You can probably just get away w/ the brake fluid.

I vaguely remember your car, I had a 05 S4 prior to getting my first 997C2S.

You will enjoy the 997C2S alot more on the track.
