New here...but have been lurking for a while
I am the owner of an 06 c2s. Love the car its my second p-car previous was a 996. Anyhow needing something different (the lady can't drive manual) I am looking into a clk63bs.
But before I make the switch are the PDK's just as fun as a standard manual for the 997 line? Also after is there a signifcant notice in the weight or fun factor that a coupe has over cabriolet?
Thanks

Cabs are a ton of fun, and my next Porsche will likely be a cab. Most of the feeback here suggests that the PDK doesn't have the fun factor of a stick, but is amazing in performance. Some seem to tire of it after a while.
My '09 cab is a blast - quiet and (almost) luxurious with the top up and (obviously) near-nirvana with the top down. Just get ready to be stared at every time you roll up to a stoplight.
As I've posted before, my non-"S" model is blazing fast as far as I'm concerned...no weight issues here.
The PDK- Everyone loves it, including myself. My local Porsche dealer GM told me last week it used to be that 25% of his buyers purchased an automatic. Now he reports 75% want the new PDK.
All the best to you!

As my 997 is a weekend fun car, I was pretty set on getting a Cab. With the top down on almost any day without rain, it doesn't get much better. I went on a road rally last weekend with a bunch of other Porsche's (both Coupe and Cab) and the passengers that came in and out of my car and the coupes said without questions, they had the most fun blasting away in the cars with the open tops. The car is squeak free with the top up or down and it is actually very, very quiet with the top up. Little to no wind noise at all.
HOWEVER, if I was to get a 997 as a daily driver, I'd get a coupe as I think I would just feel it was more appropriate.
Just my opinion.

Personally I do not find any fun in riding in a cab on speeds more than 70 miles an hour. And I rarely go lower than that on a highway in my coupe.
Folks in CA are blessed by good weather and plenty of sun, plus their highways suck so they may have plenty of fun driving 50 mph with roof down.
Not so much here.
Wow, thanks for all the input guys! I definitely need to get into something none manual as the lady keeps nagging me. Anyhow drove a m6 cab and was not impressed by it at all. I did believe I would like cab 997 but with the indecisive weather conditions down here I am afraid I would not get to enjoy it year round.
Ill wait to get back into another 911 until we can afford a decent 3rd vehicle for emergency's. So no PDK for me for now, I find myself leaning towards the clk63BS, i really enjoy the torque the amg's contain.
Im typing this just after i took a morning spin in the 997s. Maybe I should just trade in the lady for one thats more suited for my needs! :-p
Well see how it all unfolds.
Thanks again for all the insights!

Are you looking to buy new or used? Just asking because I know the M6 has taken a big depreciation hit (plus I think it's styling could use some help) and M-B AMG's always seem to take a HUGE hit once they step off the showroom floor (but not sure about the CLK63BS as that might be the only AMG not to drop to bad). So if you're looking to buy used it's probably ok but be careful if you are looking at either of these cars new.

I am looking to buy used. I found some local clk63bs cars that seem to have already taken that huge amg hit! I previously had a w211 e55 which i learned the hard way about depreciation.
Anyhow that BS is a monster and I am leaning towards that route. I really just hate to trade the 997s in but i must. Having driven other similarly priced cars and performance numbers i feel nothing compares, additionally the value holds well on these cars.
JmanE55, I noticed your in the market as well for the clk63 bs? Which colors are you looking for and what kind of feedback have you been getting on prices?
Thanks for all the great feedback!
