Going to dealer need help on price
I'll see and raise you.
There's an even higher beta coefficient (or somthing).
An 06 will give you 99% as much pleasure as an 08. More like 80% of an 09. Again, unless you want an auto. In that case, (I'm an anti-auto guy but a pro-PDK guy) it will give you 25% of an 09.

If you are talking about an 05 or 06 like I just sold yes he may take slightly less of a hit on an older car.
Personally I would get what I want and wouldn't get caught up in the absolute lowest price or be overly concerned with resale or cost of ownership if it were close say within a few thousand dollars.
I was talking in relationship to the 08 Macadamia 997S. IMO he would be better off getting the 09 Midnight Blue.

1) The 08 car is punched which means that it has one year less factory warranty right out of the gate.
2) Macadamia may be his favorite color but for over a year that car has buyers say "no thanks " . That ought to be a resale indicator . In fact if macadamia goes out of production it will not only be undesireable in later years .. it will also be dated .
3) 72K is NOT a bargain . It does not matter if the finance rate is 1.9 percent . Porsche isn;t giving something for nothing .
4) Tomorrow is Sept 1 . The end of the sales month of August is now over which means his chances to negotiate those few extra dollars has just been re shuffled .
5) His leverage with the 09 cars is taht 2010 will arrive in November or so . Plus the incentives and high inventory . It's the faster. better handling, newer, full warranty car . It wins in every area.
Yanno --The macadamia car is like the guy who marries the wrong woman. Sometimes i see guys with women and I just can't understand what was the guy thinking. Not only is the macadamia not attractive but she will take 4 grand when she leaves . He thinks he's hoing to keep the car long term but what if he wants to divorce it ? Even if she's got a great personality that will wear off the moment he says "I do" with his name on the title. Every other guy walked past the macadamia car for over a year . No one wanted to marry the macadamia 997S but this guy thiinks shes a dream car.
Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder . All his freinds say "don't do it" but nope the emotional reasoning of love being blind might just hurl the Op into that macadania 997S . Unattractive =no probem . Expensive= no problem. Hard to sell= no problem .
All his friends will wish him well and be glad its not them who married the 08 997S .
So whose the best man at the macdamia wedding?

1) The 08, though punched, is CPO and has 5 years left of warranty, 1 more year than 09
2) Macadamia may not be the most popular color but there is a market for it. These cars are all about personalization and I for one would not dissuade someone from buying what they like.
3) 1.9% Financing does matter unless you can afford all cash. For example:
The '08 in question has 3 miles, 5 years of warranty for $72K @ 1.9%.
A used '08 with CPO would have 4 years of warranty left and most likely 3500 miles or more. IF you were able to get 5% 60 month used financing which is being really generous as rates that low are usually 36 month or less, then the break-even would be $67K. Back out the extra 1 year of warranty ($1500) and you're now at $65,500. Now take out the miles 3500 @ .55 or ($1925) and you're at $63,575.
So paying $72K is the same as paying $63,575 on a used '08 all things being equal.
4) Tomorrow is August 31st, not September 1st, so 1 more day left of good financing.

You are correct. The OP originally asked if it was a good deal and in my opinion it is. There is still a day left for the dealer to come to their senses and make it work, or the OP can move on to something else. Just want to make sure it was an informed decision which is why this thread started.
]Larry, a couple of corrections here:
1) The 08, though punched, is CPO and has 5 years left of warranty, 1 more year than 09
He is paying for that CPO which offers one more year of warranty . One year is eroded so it's a wash except for the expense . Although CPO is excellent it still is not the identical of the original.
2) Macadamia may not be the most popular color but there is a market for it. These cars are all about personalization and I for one would not dissuade someone from buying what they like.
The market is driven by popularity . Porsche did make the Targa launch car in Macadamia with PDK and no chrono (. I guess there is even worse out there ) --so even production numbers may skew the actual consumer sentiment. Maybe Porsche had some extra Macadamia paint . Do you want to guess how long before the color is discontinued?

One can not compare an 08 car to an 09 car soley based on price data and finance charge without factoring in resale and most important the car itself . The 09 car may look the same but it ends there . The engine is very different . You also are assuming to total car finance without considering a large down payment which slides the scale even with your numbers.
So paying $72K is the same as paying $63,575 on a used '08 all things being equal.

I concede with this . You are right on the date.

CPO is the same as factory warranty, no? He is getting the 2 year warranty with CPO not 1 year so he's net up 1 year:
From pigcorn:
"Yes warranty kicked in June 30 2008 and expires June 30 2012..the CPO as you know adds 2 years so June 30 2014."

Who knows, discontinuing the color may make it rare and raise values. All I'm saying is he can factor that into the price if he desires.

Was comparing new '08 @ 1.9% to used '08 at 5% and proving that financing has a big impact. Was showing the 'true' value of this particular deal in question. Comparing to '09 is like you said a different scenario. Down payment, finance rate, miles on the car, will all impact the equations but I think my point was made.

1) The CPO is 2 extra years but he has already eaten up 1 year and 3 months . So he will have 1 year 9 months which he has to pay for to attain the "certified" car. Certfied is excellent but not identical . http://www.caranddriver.com/features...he_911-feature
"A CPO label—the company calls it “Porsche Approved”—tells you the used car has been given a “100-plus-point inspection” at an authorized dealership. And as with most CPO programs, the warranty covers just the powertrain, mechanical systems, and bodywork; electronic elements such as nav and audio systems aren’t included. "
2) The original poster aleeady shared that he found out that macadamia is not holding value on resale . My guess is that he asked enough people but even if he didn't the mere fact that the 08 car is still there raises the question of why.
3) An 08 to 08 comparison is not what he is looking at if the two choices are :1) 08 macadamia vs 2) 09 midnight . Beside the one model year priice gap the biggest issue at thse levels are the differences in cars . Now back in the days when buyers were getting 8 percent off 09 cars I understood an 08 leftover but this recent trnd of huge discounts on new Porsches is almost unheard of . In my 23 years of buying Porsches I have never seen anything like this .
The 09 is the deal of deals .

Larry,
I think our differences can be summed up as follows. I was attempting to answer the question "Is this a good deal?" and you are answering the question "Is this the right choice?" I don't disagree with you that '09 is probably the best choice, but I also think the '08 is a good deal.
