What would you do in this situation?

My original rear Techart Type III spoiler had an issue where one of the fins on the rear deck part of of the spoiler was bowed upward. The area in which this happened, is directly over the part of the engine bay where the heat escapes and you can see the top mounted fan. It appeared as though the heat escaping from this area over time, warped the spoiler.

Techart has been outstanding about this situation and they replaced the spoiler and even picked up the cost for installation and repainting it. The replacement spoiler now two months later is starting to do the same thing again.

Once again, Techart is being simply amazing about it and has offered to replace the spoiler again, but I am not sure what to do as I kind of feel that it will keep doing the same thing over and over again.

I took the car to the dealership and they stated that nothing was wrong with the car, that is just an area that heat escapes.

I don't want to over extend the generosity that Techart is providing, even though I understand they are trying to take care of me, as they should.

They have offered to replace the wing with a different style wing, their new Type IV as well, so to try a different piece. Do you think I should do that instead of getting another Type III? Techart again has been awesome at trying to take care of this. I like the Type III style and they claim no one else has reported this issue.

I guess I am a bit torn on what to do and looking for advice on what would you do? In the meantime, I am waiting to hear back again from Techart on any other suggestions they have to prevent this from happening again.

Wow...I am thinking of picking up the type III, my favorite rear spoiler.....wondering if anyone else has had this problem, glad to hear Techart is stepping up to the plate with your warranty issues.

Great, you just saved me from spending another 4 grand on my toy. What a relief...

Well, if 2 type 3 wings got warped - try different design, of course.

It may be more due to the Florida sun and heat then that produced by your engine. When you say warped, exactly how warped is it? Any pictures?

I would try a different tail, it is likely that this will happen again.

See the picture below. See if yours is doing the same thing or not? If you can either post a reply here or send me a private message. The replacement spoiler is not bowing up this much, but it is starting to warp upwards as seen in this picture below. This was the first spoiler that got replaced.

Let me please restate this as well, Techart has been absolutely phenomenal through this process. Very accommodating, empathetic and understanding. I have seen a lot of companies go above and beyond and they have taken it to a new level. This could be simply an issue with my car that is non-detected or perhaps a design flaw with a few units.

They also said they would oven bake the next replacement to ensure it withstood the heat correctly. I am thinking however of going with the Type IV as I have now had two of them do the same thing.

Well if you really like the style of the wing and they are willing to oven bake it to ensure it's able to withstand the heat, maybe 3rd time is a charm.

True, but the issue I am seeing is that this is being caused by heat over time. I just sent an email to Alex from Techart, again he has been awesome, to see what he thinks about going with the Type IV instead of the Type III. I love the III though. Not sure how I feel about the IV yet.

Normally I'd say it's wise to swap to another design (what is a type IV btw?) after these two events, but it's just odd that TA has sold many many of these designs and it appears to be a new problem. Unless you've heard from them that this is, in face, a common problem, here's what the logic tells me:
First time - bad wing
Second time - car problem or environmental issue
Unless this thread prompts others to volunteer that they have similar problems, you might want to have the cooling venting in your car inspected before trying any other wing.

I am not sure what i would do. I really like the type III and even another wing is not a gurantee that it won't pose the same issue. Does your car have an intake ? Has its filter been cleaned ? Hot Florida sun and rain can be an obstacle too. I am just guessing here . Have you come down to Miami and had them look at it ?

The car does have an intake, Evom. The local dealer has said, no issue with car causing heat, but I guess another look could not hurt, just a far drive to Miami to have someone potentially say, no trouble found.

The heat that emanates from engine bay after the car is turned off is what think it causing the piece you see to warp. All the heat escapes at this one point. You can feel the heat escaping, so I am just guessing this is the cause of the issue. I am not sure how it can be a cooling issue when it seems the issue causing it is once the car is turned off.

I have decided that I will see if the third time is the charm. I like the Type III spoiler and with never seeing the Type IV and being a fan of simple design (like no lower rear tail light or wind extensions) I would probably not like the Type IV. If the same problem comes up, I will see about going with the Type IV.

skitzot,

Good to hear that TechArt is taking such good care of you. I had a problem with one of my TechArt sideskirts (body shop didn't like the finish on one of the trailing edges of the skirt) and they FedEx'd up a replacement no questions asked.

Keep us posted. Your car's looking incredible with all the mods.

If it's a heat soak issue, then you defeat the problem by opening the bonnet after a hot day/ ride. Try this with an infared thermometer and post the temp. THis will help TA debug the prob.

Good luck
