Thumbs up Paddle Shifter Option 2010.

Hello All: Firstly thanks for all your kind words on my decision to go with the GT Silver Metallic C4S Cocoa, etc.

Someone posted that the paddle shifter would not be available for the other 911s except for Turbo. WRONG!!!!!

I confirmed with my dealer in Montreal. The option is #840 I urge all of you PDK users to verify with your dealers. Orders for February production and onwards will have the PDK Paddle shifter option available on the full line of 911s. Additionally, those willing to purchase it for their 911s with "dogs ears" shifters currently installed will be able to purchase and retrofit on a new steering.

I would have ordered my C4S Cab already but have to wait until February build date.

The 998 or 991 whatever it will be (probably the later) will only be available in fall 2012 (September) and not sooner...there is also a possibility that it may be delayed until 2013. Consequently the 997.II will run in 2011 as well and possibly later. Thanks to my German speaking colleague here at the UN we have been on the phone with some folks that he knows at Porsche HQ so the word is pretty good.

Comments welcome. PS: Thanks again for your words of encouragement.

I believe that person in question was me, and I had stated that "to my knowledge", it was only available as an option on the Turbos, which I still believe is the case here in the USA. If i was wrong, I do apologize for it. That said, you should NEVER trust the word of anyone when it comes to your car - be it options, issues, or anything else. Despite the best efforts of those in the business, they are often times misinformed about one fact or another, and can easily lead you astray.

Just as an aside, I have been told by various dealers that: you could adjust the height of the sport bucket seats, that the interior stitching was only 4 different options, that the dial color of the sport chrono plus was automatically changed if the main dial colors were, that the Porsche fire extinguisher could be fitter to the sport bucket seat, that standard leather was equal in quality to natural leather, and about 20 other facts that I could list. Point is, they were all wrong. Keep in mind that the main goal of the dealership is to sell you a car, and if telling you that they can order you a pink elephant from Germany that will fit in the front of your car and poo golden eggs, don't think for a second they wont.

Great Post. Thanks for the information. Good luck with your purchase. The hardest part is the wait.

Lets's Settle this

Ok Boys (and girls) I agree that dealers may or may not know everything. However I disagree 100% that dealers will sell you anything as long as they make the sale (at least not in this case).

If you walk into any dealer tomorrow and purchase a 997.II and request option 840 (paddle shifters) they will say NO! Why? Because it is not available until January/February production slots.

Now January comes around and you walk into the dealer and place your order, where you will obtain a print out and that print out will amongst others state option 840 paddles shifters. If you receive your car and it does not have paddle shifters, then you are in your right to refuse the car completely! Please also note that when the dealer places the order if paddle shifter is not available, they will not be able to request the option and system will not take order.....simple as that. Find out for yourself or go 6 speed.
