After a +30 minutes drive I park the car and switch off the engine. Three to five minutes later, the engine fan starts to blow for +/- 5 minutes. Shouldn´t the fan blow just after when I shut off the engine, why only 5 minutes later?

The engine fan comes on automatically once it reaches the temp that Porsche has programmed ....even IF the car is off!
They all do it,even my 997.1!

If you are referring to the aux. engine compartment fan ( rear of the car), it is because the latent engine heat is now heating the air in the eng. compartment. The heat is no longer being pumped through the engine and no airflow through the heat exchangers, unless really hot coolant. This can take a few minutes. To minimize this I am very easy ( relatively low rpms and light throttle) on the car for the last few miles before shut down.

Heat builds up and the fan comes on to cool it off.

This is completely normal. We experience it on our 997.2 all the time, especially in the summertime heat down here in Florida.

Fahrer hit the nail right on the head with his post.

Excellent advice! Good for this issue and the correct practice to cool down/shut down boxer engines.

Attn: Car cover users...

Yep, happens on mine too. My only extra tip is to be careful if you use a car cover. I always do but leave the rear section 'folded back' to expose the engine air inlets for the first hour after shutdown. Then I go back and cover it all up. When the fan comes on after shutdown, with the cover on, you can see it sucked up against the inlet vents. Strains the fan motor, battery, and leaves the motor cooking longer than it should. Or so it seems...

I'm in the habit (from previous turbo cars to preserve the turbine) of cooling down the engine in the last couple miles of the trip and do exactly what Fahrer does. I don't know if it's needed for NA cars but it cannot hurt
