"Failure - Rear Spoiler" for 997
I know there is a fix for the rear spoiler error message on 2004 and older models, however, is there a comparable fix for a 2005 997? Mine is a OEM Vorsteiner fixed wing carbon graphite spoiler. Hydraulic pump was removed, no wiring harness to "disconnect" here as the thread for the 996 model referenced. Help, I need to eliminate the annoying error message and beep encountered at speeds of 75+ MPH. My local dealer is clueless and I can't reach Vorsteiner in Germany.

you need the wire harness still to activate the third brake light. i believe the part number is the same for the 997 as the 996. in terms of the code, your dealer just needs to code the spoiler as a fixed wing "a la aerokit wing"
You need to install the wiring harness for the elimination of the brake light in the adjustable OEM wing and they recode your module with a Piwis for FIXED WING
Part #997.612.670.71 Msrp = $70

I expect to know more next week when I add my Misha GT2M wing.

Like others have said, you definitely need the wiring harness for the "fixed wing" version (aka Aerokit) and the dealer to disable the spoiler function. The wiring harness is for the third brake light to function with the fixed wing.
thank you
Okay, so just to confirm, I need BOTH the wiring harness for the 3rd brake light to work AND I'll need to take it to a dealer so they can reprogram it?

OK, well, I installed a Misha GT2 wing last night, including the special wiring harness. With this wiring harness I get no warning light, and no errors, so apparently with the right harness there's no need to get anything re-programmed at the dealership. The harness cost $49 at SunCoast.
I will start a new thread with install as well as final result pics once I detail the car, hopefully this weekend. Install is an easy DIY if you have patience and some simple socket wrenches. The only step that even requires a second pair of hands is sliding the assembly into the hinge, which is almost the last step.

Spoke to soon, above. This AM, on my way in to work, I got the spoiler failure warning, so despite the $50 wiring harness programming at the dealer is still necessary.
This makes me question the point of the special harness!

The harness is for the rear brake light that was in our OEM decklid. Now that you took care of that you still need the dealer or INDY to recode it as a FIXED wing. Thats how it will display in the Piwis.
Got my dealer to clear the error and code the system as "fixed wing". Took them 10 mins, and did it for free
And that's why I buy them a bottle of Grey Goose each Christmas- for my service rep, head of service, and my tech. Take care of those who take care of you! Good goes around.
