Infant car seat in the 997
Infant car seat in the porsche 997 can be done!
after a fair bit of searching in different forums..there was not much info out for finding and installing a forward facing Canadian Infant car seat in the rear seat of a porsche 911. (The porsche infant car seats are NOT available in Canada. I think they are not approved for use here)
So for those who have a partner who requests that the new car needs to be able to fit a car seat...well..the 997 can do it...heres what worked for me. Might save you hours of web surfing and trial and error.
Steps
#1) only seat i found (only searched toysrus) was the SAFETY FIRST infant car seat named AIR PROTECT. Its got a narrow enough base to just fit onto the rear seat (which is concave shaped). Cost $300 CDN. It just came out i think...lucky me. (There may be more car seat options in the USA).
#2) Behind the rear seats, at the top, there is a rear anchor tethor hidden under the carpet. The carpet is already precut, except for one area which needs an Exactoblade to cut about 1cm. AFter that it lifts up and you can see the anchor underneath.
#3) I removed the rear seat cushion. This is secured by velcro only so ..easy job. I tried the seat with and without the seat cushion and i think the car seat sits lower and is more stable without it and i dont have to worry about damaging it.
#4) The rear seat belt receptacle needs to be adjusted to face more vertical. This is because it faces forward originally and can not provide enough tension to hold the car seat back with the belt. To adjust you need to first remove the plastic cover at the base of the seat belt receptacle by pulling it off..it just snaps off. This exposes the Screw head that secures the receptacle. Then you need to use a SOCKET WRENCH to loosen the Screw Head and then rotate the receptable upwards. Then screw it back down super tight!!!
#5) place rolled up towel on the base of the rear seat for added support.
#6) install car seat as usual.
Quite secure in my opinion.
Good luck...theres not much room in the back and i had a sore neck after installing hahaha.
Note son is 20 mo old. He is 50%ile in height. He likes to put up his feet against the rear seat on the carbon fibre..but luckily i bought this tinted window sunscreen (for my other car) which also sticks well on the carbon back and protects it. Also, my son really like to be able to LOOK FORWARD through the GAP in the BUCKET SEATS so he can see ahead (when there is no one in the front passenger seat).
my wife in the passenger seat is 5'5" and she is fine with the leg room.
Worst part was....i scratched my door afterwards. When i closed the door at the end of the hard work... my watch came in contact with the paint!! (ive never done that to any car before!).
Well hope this helps out those who were debating on getting a 911 because of the car seat issue.

Awesome write-up!
Glad I'm not the only one who found the seat belt buckle trick! Definitely makes a difference, and makes the car seat stay seated properly, when rotated to the verticle position.
Again, great job and your car looks beautiful in Meteor.
Enjoy it in good health!

Nice, I got some similar problems on my installation..
For reference, Britax makes the Porsche seats, the smaller is the roundabout and the bigger is the Boulevard (I think, not a 100%)
Did you consider taking the vertical part back seat out to add some AP room? I've read people doing both with different results.
For the guys with convertibles, Porsche do not recommend child seat on the back, anyone tried?

I've got the Britax Roundabout in the back of my Cab and it works pretty well. Where did you hear about Porsche not recommending seats in the back as I'd be pretty curious about that.
You're right, my quote was not specific. It's the tethered anchor that appears to be available for targa and coupe only, but I never checked on cabs to see if that's true. If one uses the seat belts it should be fine then. The only restriction that I saw in the manual is to use child seats on sport bucket seats.

MY 997 '05 S Cab doesn't have a rear tether.
