Squeaky, Creaky Tail...

My OEM tail squeaks and creaks as it raises. I applied some lithium grease to a few of the moving parts, but still it creaks and squeaks as it rises from the deck -- sorta like the hinges of a door in an old house. It's difficult to pinpoint where the sounds are coming from even with the engine off and my ear near the gap between the deck and spoiler in the raised position. I'd hate to have to take it to the dealer some 30 miles away just to have a few drops of oil or squirts of grease applied if I can do that at home in my garage. Just not sure what else to lube. I thought maybe this could be a common p-car problem with an easy DIY fix. Any ideas? Hope it's not the electric motor that's failing....

Dang it!

I was hoping it was something a lot more trivial than that. Thanks for the quick reply.

Mine too. Very common problem from what I've read. I haven't even bothered to look to see where one might lube it.

Do you know if there was any issue with raising, stability or lowering at speed (ie is the sound an indication of a larger issue) - or was it more an issue of the sound it was making?

Just found out that my car is doing this as well. I don't hear it when driving but doubt I would. I raised it for a washing yesterday and heard it then. What's an estimated cost, worst case / best case scenario, to fix it?

Sorry to hear you're having the same (or similar) problem. I haven't driven my car much since I last reported the problem on this site. Haven't had a chance to get it to the dealer yet either. Will soon -- my warranty ends in 6 months. Sounds like yours may have already expired. Maybe dndodd can give us both some idea of the repair cost.

I can't even hear mine when it raises, it must be a loud squeak.

I only hear mine when it is parked with the motor off. Never hear it when I'm driving.

Well, I've never heard it before either but I was washing the car and had my daughter raise the tail while I was standing outside and that's when I heard it.
More of a creak than a squeak I guess.

I don't have a clue as to the cost.

I have a CPO warranty so hopefully this would be covered?

I have heard that a few drops of lube in the drain holes about midway along the bottom of the plastic tubes will usually eliminate the squeak. Mine makes the sound but I haven't gotten around to trying this.
