Popularity of PDK in Different Countries/Regions
I was somewhat surprised to see on the website of Canada's largest Porsche dealer, that 100% of the cars in their 2010 911 inventory have the 6 speed manual transmission. Has the PDK caught on in some areas and not in others?
Wow, something the Canadians got right for once...sticking to the 6 speed and not following along like us lazy Americans.
J/k you guys
I think anywhere outside the US, the PDK will not sell well. I am pretty well traveled and rarely do you see a car that is offered w/ both transmissions as an automatic, especially sports cars. Europe for example has a different passion for automobiles (more purist) and would never give up the manual choice, also many people abroad still are and were always concerned about fuel mileage, which suffers w/ an automatic. In europe most of the taxis are even manual, that's hardcore! I myself would never get a 911 in auto, i think it takes away from the driving experiance, but to each his own.

That said, I know a lot of experienced track guys and just plain Porsche-ophiles that swear by their PDK. I drove a Cayman with PDK and it was a bore, but it was a base 987 without the launch option. So you and I could both be missing something. Nonetheless, until they show me otherwise, I'll be rowing through the gears and loving it.

Wow...there are actually others out here that feel the same way I do about automatics in a 911?
Sometimes I'm afraid to state an opinion, especially about transmissions because I'll get stoned or flogged.
PDK is great for some and is a good move for Porsche, but I feel it belongs on a sport sedan like the Panamera. Now that's one car I won't purchase in a manual and only in a PDK...with launch control of course.
I don't mind if the PDKers pass me by, at least I'm enjoying myself rowing through those gears.

They also didn't get into the insane subprime mortgages, so the Canadian banks are much healthier than the US Banks, and the Canadian real estate market isn't flooded with foreclosures so prices aren't suffering like in the US.

It's usually the other way around... PDK owners are the ones flogged by manual tranny owners.
Majority of 911's here in So-Cal are tip/PDK...but the majority are also sold to posers who are just looking for an emblem to show off. But they are the majority and drive sales figures and marketing here. 6speeds can be tough to find in inventory as a result. I'm with you guys though, and pretty confident that I will NEVER own a non-manual porsche (or any other sports cars for that matter). Its just wrong...
