VF Supercharger - share your personal experience pls

Hi,

I promised myself I will not modify my 911 in any way, but almost a year has passed, and I cannot stop thinking that upgrading with a VF Supercharger would be a great thing to do.

I have an 2009 997.1 Targa 4S and its my daily driver (except from late November till mid March). Turbo is not an option for me as I need elegant/stealthy car (Meteor gray with sand beige, no wings or other add-ons) to go with my dress code. Also I really like the glass roof of a Targa (lots of gloomy rainy days here...)

All of you guys having first hand experience with the VF supercharger system please give me you honest opinion on: driveability, stopping, reliability.

Anything else I should know about?

Many thanks,
Iggy

I have had one installed for five months. You can't tell it's there until you put your foot down. I have a cab, so when the top is down you can just barely hear it if you listen hard enough. It's virtually silent. I was impressed with the completeness of the kit. There is no difference in stopping unless you end up driving faster. If you don't end up installing it at VF I can recommend a place in San Diego. It feels like you put in a larger motor. For me it was a must do, as well as the MaxSpeed exhaust that will be coming next week. Hope this helps. Nice choice on the car.

I have had a small amount of eperience with the VF.....
read here...

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...elf-style.html

Drveability....You wouldn't know it was there until you hit the gas pedal!
But that can be said for any FI system.

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...7-post471.html

Stopping......It didn't effect my brakes at all ?!
All joking aside these cars stop on a dime.....besides it is NOT like you are adding another 500 hp.....so I am sure the brakes will be plenty good for even the most advanced driver,after-all it is Porsche!

Reliability.....I know of a few cars with over 30,000 boosted miles on them!

Only other issue that I have had is that it hits the rear decklid upon HARD acceleration but I found that WEVO sells some stiffer engine mounts.I think that these NEW mounts will solve that problem.

Stacy

PS I know of a used VF supercharger that only has 4,000 miles on it that is for sale...!

Thanks for the valuable updates guys. The thing is I'm across the world from you (South east Europe), so I would need some "garage enthusiast" to help me with the install.

Justatoy, I have red your posts in the pasts and that is what actually got me into thinking about VF supercharger in the first place.

Any more experiences with the system, any input will help?

Thanks again...

I think I have around 20K+ miles on my kit now and around 35K on the ar. I love it. There were a few small hiccups along the way, but that was a result of the initial install and not the kit.

I have an old kit (probably almost 4 years old now) and they've made some nice improvements.

If you are going keep your car for a while, I say go for it. Just make sure you have a competent installer as that's they key to making this work properly.

I have around 10,000 miles on my VF-E SC and love it. It transforms the car significantly. Have to echo the comment about having competent installers do the work. Lots of ways to goof up the install and just because someone says they can install it does not mean they can or will install it correctly. I had some horror stories on my install however once it was redone correctly it has been fantastic.
I highly recommend it.

The biggest downside is that your #1 overrevs will advance as fast as your odometer.

I think that with a little "encouragement", Stacy might be willing to go there and install it for you.

I have heard the VF delivers extra horse, but little to no effect 1st - 3rd gear. Thoughts?

NOt sure IF you are being serious BUT if you are then,if you are making power in one gear...than you are making power in all the gears so to answer the question.....

1st gear is so fast, that you hit the rev limiter right away
2nd gear actually is a fun gear but just not long enough(like first)
3rd and 4th gear are the most fun
5th and 6th are for the souls who could stomach losing their license on public roads,LOL!!

Any FI adds amazing amount of fun to the Porsche experience,IMO!
