Definitely their problem. I have an '06 car but some tell me I'm not really 100% safe even with a redesigned IMS. May look into LN Engineering's IMS upgrade once my car is out of warranty next March.

The same thing happen to me. It is the IMS. Sorry, the engine is gone. My failed about 3 weeks ago. Still waiting on Porsche to say if they will fix it or not. Did you buy the car new or is it a CPO car? My is a 05 with only 12K miles, but I did not but it as a CPO. If Porsche decided not to fix it which they should, you are looking at a $20k bill? I should find out before the end of the year if they will fix my car or not. If not I was thinking of getting a lawyer. Are you in the NY area? Where is the car now? Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Who is the extended warranty through? I have an 05' also with Fidelity as the extended. I want to know if your extended covers this. Please keep us posted.

Thanks,
Jon

If you have an extended warranty you should be covered. This was a mistake by Porsche on the 04 and the new 05 engines. I believe you could get the IMS replaced before the damages happen. Check with your Porsche dealer. Also, I believe Porsche will pay for the replacement.

So I just got word, Porsche is going to replace the engine, but I have to pay for the labor. I guess $3k is better than $20k.

Mmmm... how come they would not cover the labor cost? I thought your car came with CPO?

Considering your 2005 was out of warranty and not a CPO, I think Porsche took good care of you on this one. Making you come out of pocket for the labor is a little puzzling, but 3K is absolutely better than 20K!
