DTRLs on 997.1?

I did a search and a bunch of old threads on this, but I can't find the answer. I have an 08 Carrera S and I was hoping to update the fogs to the newer DTRL LEDs we see on the 09 cars. Can this be done? If so, please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

I tried to buy LEDs for fog lights but was disappointed - too dim and you get error code on dashboard - it was not nice at all. Hoen xenon match bulbs is the way to go.

I still did not find simple way that would allow automatically make fog lights to light up when you turn ignition on. On 996 cars one could hard wire fogs breaker but in 997 cars it does not seem to be possible to do it that simple.
Bu I do not want to run lowbeam xenons as daylight lights all the time.

Other way is to try to hard wire fogs selector contact in light switch but I figured it is simpler just to turn it on manually. If anyone knows how to get and use 12v signal from sun sensor any 997 car has - please chime in, as simple solution would be to put a relay on this signal and feed it to fogs/lowbeams. But I could not find where this sun sensor wire goes in central console. That would be an ideal solution - to have fogs on 100% of time and put xenons on sun sensor signal through relay so it could automatically turn on and off. But, as simple as it sounds in theory - it is quite difficult to get it done on practice.

it looks like Sharwerks has a Techart LED kit. It doens't go in the spot where the 997 fogs are, but it looks pretty good. The one issue is that it's $1,000. I still may do it as I like having daytime running lights and it makes the car look newer to me. They charge over $400 to put it in so it's like a $1,500 project. Here is a link with a picture to show how it will look.

Hi Michaeldantep,

just a little "search" on this forum with "DRL" ... a lot of answer.
Ruf, Techart, speedart ... and home made.

Vincent.

Thanks Vincent997S, I found this one that I think is a lot better, but it's expensive. What does everyone think?

I think it is waste of money. You would get much more practical benefit from spending this amount on GT3 LCAs to improve car handling than on LED light bulbs.

Let me rephrase the question as I didn't mean if you would buy them. Do you think this conversion looks good in terms of looking like the newer 911s? Compared to the others kits you've seen?

Hi Michael,

my opinion ...
I absolutely want the drl on my car (997s 2005) but I do not find aftermarket good.
Maybe Techart ???
Best will be to change the bumper by OEM 997 gen 2 ! (front and ... rear)
Budget is an other question !

Vincent.

I wonder if anyone has tried to put the 997.2 turn signal and LEDs onto the 997.1? I wonder if you can make it fit?
