TPC Warnings
TPC Warnings
About a week ago I got a TPC warning after coming down a mountain and figured it was due to the rapid decrease in elevation. Today I got it again after coming down my hill from just under 1000 ft to about 400 feet. I pulled over and shut off the engine and restarted thinking it would reset things like last time. No dice, I just had the error lights on the cluster. Then, as I started climbing up the road to home, it cleared the warning but still never displayed the tire pressures. I checked the pressures with a digital gauge and all was correct.
What should I do about this?

Elevation changes (even up to 5000ft) should not trigger TPMS alarms. I suggest you have your sensors checked. Perhaps you can see if they are tight on the rim - use a wrench and check them without over-tightening.
Just took the car to the store. At first I had no warnings but no read outs on the tire pressure. I scrolled through some of the settings and the the error message went off again and said it was learning. I guess I re-set the parameters. I doubled back and re-checked them. Then it said it was learning for about ten minutes and then the error message went off and went back to a blank readout where I get the little car diagram. I'm wondering if perhaps my pressure is way out.
In my previous "Tire Pressure Q's?" thread it was mentioned that elevation and temperature can effect pressure. Well, if I'm measuring my pressure cold at my house (almost 1000 feet) on a day where the ambient temperature is 50 degrees, will those two elements throw off the sensors enough to not read properly at a lower elevation after the tires are warmed up a bit.
When I got the error this afternoon I pulled over and check my pressure and grated I had been driving for a good spell on a twisty road, but my pressure measured 35.5 / 44.

Set your TPMS in the OBC by the book and you should be fine. TPMS in the 997.1 is basic info to detect rapid deflation and is not a very accurate PSI reader.
P.S. - have you seen your messages on this forum?

My bad - OBC - On-Board Computer.
Glad you found the videos useful.
Yeah, I watched them all about three times and then went practicing.
My wife hunks it's funny that one has to practice driving.
