Failure Indicator

Hi all,

I have a very strange problem with my car, in that I quite often get an intermittent "Failure Indicator" message for the coolant temperature gauge.

It happens more often when the ambient temperature is low, so most of the winter it displays a fault, and the summer it seems to be fine. I have a durametric testing kit and have verified that there is no problem with the actual coolant temperature, it appears to be a problem somewhere monitoring this temperature.

On the advice of some members on the renntech forums, I had the coolant temperature sensor changed by my local dealer, however the problem still persists. There is now a persistent fault on the ECU which reads P1654 - Coolant shut-off valve final stage.

Does anyone have any idea what this is, and why it's presence seems to then trigger P3081 - Coolant temperature implausible. I can clear this but it gets triggered again when I drive for a few miles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Sam

My 07 turbo is at the dealer as we speak for exact same problem, also oil temp. They went over on friday they are trying the same fix that you have. Do you have any mods (flash, exhuast)

Coolant sensors go bad easily, and cost very little to replace- might be just that simple.
