Optimal Shifting Point
I currently own a 2005 C2S. Perhaps like many of you, I tend to upshift just short of redline when I'm in the mood for spirited acceleration. However, I wonder if for maximum acceleration there is an rpm shift point below redline which at which you should shift so that you enter the next higher gear at its optimum torque. I'm not an engineer, so I apologize if this seems to be an off the wall question.
If I recall, your torque maxs at about 5000 and then falls a little bit until the HP maxes at around 6500; then both drop appreciably. Ideally, when you upshift in your "spirited acceleration", you want to minimize the RPM drop in the next gear, so you do have to get closer to the redline in the lower gear even though this is above the peak HP/torque.
I'd be interested to know what the RPM shift point is in a PDK car under hard acceleration?

PDK D Normal mode tends to shift low (2kRPM) even though it is adaptive and it can shift higher. D Sport mod shifts around 3kRPM in normal traffic and higher as you accelerate harder (it is adaptive). Sport Plus shifts at redline.
For the OP: I like to shift 997 manuals in the 3-4kRPM range in normal traffic and do not allow running below 2kRPM. No harm in shifting higher 4-5-6kRPM and the occasional redline.
It depends. As I drive it M mode is whatever I want. Typically, 3-4kRPM in regular traffic. 5k-7kRPM in spirited driving.

I would think probably on 1st and 2nd gear to go up at 5.5-6K rpm area so next gear starts from 4.5K rpm area and after entering 3rd gear keep almost redlining it.
i guess question was more like what is best drag-strip style start shifting strategy - when upshift on 1st gear, when upshift on 2nd, etc, to achieve max possible result.

Well, I would think that it would be different depending on the gears in question. The ratio between say 2&3 is different then the ratio between 4&5.
Taking 2nd up to say 6500 will land you at a different spot in 3rd then say taking 4th to 6500 and shifting to 5th.
