GPS Camera Alert Devices

I just read about the GPS Angel which is a battery powered device that sits on your dashboard and provides location alerts for speed and red light cameras. It looks good but its database must be updated using a PC-only program. I have a Mac.

I am still interested in getting a GPS camera alerting device as a supplement to my radar detector. I assume that others on this board share this interest and have probably used these devices. I hope that you will share your experiences in this thread.

As I see it, the factors that are important are:
  • Ease of use
  • Reliability
  • Ease of updating the database
  • Accuracy and comprehensiveness of the data base
  • Frequency of database revisions

If there are other factors that are important, please describe them.

Finally, I should note that I will be using the device in the United States. I have seen quite a few of these devices advertised in foreign (UK) publications but not in their American counterparts.

I can't understand why the database for proprietary device would require a downloading program. But if a device is limited to using databases that can only be downloaded using a particular type of computer, please mention it.

Thanks in advance.

+1 9500ix. Can even add your own GPS-based warnings.

Run a PC emulator or use a friend's laptop (download new data to 9500ix not necessary too often, though they have weekly updates)....

I bought the GPS Angel....www.GPSAngel.com at Frys and it works great, free database and has more cameras than Cobra. Trapster is weak IMO.

Good luck!

BTW, I just tried GPS Angel on my Macbook using Fusion and it worked fine. I'm sure Parallels would work as well since it is a basic USB database upload app. Good luck and let's beat those cameras! The $300 ticket I got really sucked but now I am safe!
