Had the car a couple of weeks and a few issues.
So far I'm loving the car I have a few concerns...06 C4 coupe 21XXX miles
I see through the history that the trans has had work, the clutch is heavy and chattery if I leave at too low an RPM. Quite frankly it feels like it had a spec clutch installed ( or it's done
)
When coming to a stop I can't put the car into 1st gear unless I'm stopped ( not even of 10 MPH ) is this normal from you experience?
The other problem I have is I smell burning oil after driving it for 20 or so minutes, no leaks, no smoke.
I've been a car guy my whole life but I know little of P-car engineering so forgive the newb q's

Smarter guys then me here but to get the ball rolling...
Does the clutch engage without slipping under load? Does it fell normal after getting the car moving and shifting into 2-3-4-5-6? How about reverse? Any clunking or grinding noises?
It is fairly common not be be able to get back into 1st when moving, especially if the car is not yet up to operating temperature. However, you should have no problem getting into 1st after coming to a stop. Any specifics on exactly what type of transmission work was performed? Is it a CPO car?
Burning oil smell. Are you positive you're smelling burning oil and not some other fluid? Do your tailpipes look blackened, maybe one side more than the other? Have you been under the car front to back to ensure you don't have some seepage in an unexpected location (other than under or around the engine compartment)? Any burn marks or deposits anywhere on the exhaust system? A small leak could be hitting the hot exhaust and burning off without leaving any trace of a leak on the ground.

The cutch does not slip and grabs hard, I've had specs in my 600HP+ mustangs and they feel EXACTLY the way it's acting.
The car is no problem into 1st when stopped, and is much better in operating temp, I'll chalk that up to "operates as designed" no grinding shifts, ( maybe slow into second) great through to 6th while moving, no probs into reverse
The car is a CPO car, I am working on getting previous copies of the repair orders, the previous owner went from 5 to 2 at VIR. So it has a new engine and trans
I've inspected the car on a lift and it's dry and clean underneath. It smells like oil, not coolant or trans.

Noob here too also with a 06 C2 Coupe CPO (27XXX miles). I also notice the occasional burning oil smell. No leaks, no smoke, tail pipes look OK. Maybe this is normal?
I'll leave the clutch noise issues to others that know more than I, but I can tell you that I never engage first unless I'm at a stop (or at least below 5 mph). It's normal for the trans to resist engaging first above those speeds (it's something with the synchros).
The burning smell is just cosmoline. You can read all about it, but suffice it to say that it's a rust-inhibitor that Porsche sprays on the engine. So the smell is totally normal and will fade with time as it continues to burn off. You should especially notice it after spirited driving.
Congrats and enjoy the car.

The one physical difference I know for sure is the final outlet pipe is 2 and 5/16" diameter on the 'S' muffler pipe and is 2" on the non-S. The 5/16" difference is why the 'S' tips will not fit on the non-S without adaptors (only applies to 2008 and earlier models - for 2009 the S and non-S tips are interchangeable).
I thought the internal design of the muffler units was the same.
The pics above do show a difference between the 996 and 997S mufflers but I have not seen the inside of a 997 non-S to compare.

Not sure if these S-tips would fit your '06, but give Suncoast a call and they can tell you more.

Try reving the engine a bit to get her into 1st while creeping along. If you don't rev then you pretty much have to wait until your stopped. Although the car has enough torque that you can use 2nd so long as you rolling.
To get the S tips on a non-S, you have to swap mufflers and tips. Try ebay, many folks sell their old system when they upgrade exhaust.

nearly 3 years and 22k for my 07 C4. still smells after spirited drive. Almost no oil consumption.
With regards to yr clutch it need a tuning, especially if cable operated. I had that once on a BMW: ridiculously hard and pedal to the floor would not fully clutch, hence hard gear and bad sync. I would bring it to a dealer before something gets damaged. Good luck.
