Anybody try one of these? Do you think it is very necessary or ever needed?

Going to do some 4 wheeling? Personally, I think the car is heavy enough back there. Then again, any mods I chose will be with an eye to weight savings and/or performance, etc.

I didn't know if the extra protection was even needed for road debris and such. Your right about it adding some weight but not sure how much.

I have it on my car for safety... didn't cost much, was a Porsche part and the weight is negligible - really. It's meant to protect the sump but, as of yet, I've never run over anything to test this out and hope it never happens, of course. I don't regret having it, that's for sure but cannot tell how effective it could really be. Again, don't worry about its weight.

Hmm I'm planning on running some dirt/gravel roads in the C4S this summer, I think I'll pick this up, thanks for the link!

I haven't been able to find much in the way of rally/off-road protection for the 997, if anybody knows a link let me know.

Good investment

Before I had a Pcar, an acquaintance of mine totaled an anniversary edition 996 on a town road. He got air and bottomed the car on touchdown. The impact cracked the oil pan in 2 and of course all the oil drained from the engine which blew moments later. He coasted the car to my house 1 mile down hill. Every square inch of the body from the engine lid back was covered in a layer of oil.

The insurance adjuster never did find proof of the illusive 'deer' that jumped in front of him....

Skidplate is a good idea if you have ever gotten your rear tires off the ground...

Front end protection/skidplate

2006 BonB 27k miles (just broken in...) AWD.
The front end has a crappie plastic skid plate, if you can call it that.
I can't find any aftermarket part to replace it with aluminum or stainless.
These sit so low, a brick or elevated manhole cover could trash your dream toy in pieces.
Is this something where you find a local group that suggests a fabricator to have one custom made?
Thoughts pls...
Regards,
Scottie
