I installed it on my car and there was about 70% clutch life left. I just sucked it up, as the I put a LSD in at the same time....two mods I highly recommend especially if you track.

Those other mods are also great, must have a set of LW wheels for the track

mike123 is infamous around these parts
I have a 2002 996tt Dealer wanted $5,000 to put a clutch in. I put in myself with a engine and transmission jack I made myself, it took me only one day to drop the motor and trans and put them back in the car. One of the easiest cars I have ever worked on.

If the clutch is being changed out anyway at your expense, consider a heavy duty unit. the cost differential is probably only a few hundred dollars. Think twice about a lightweight flywheel, many recommend against using this in a street vehicle unless you really need it, due to drive-ability issues. Same with limited slip, if you are not tracking the car, it may not do you a lot of good.

From your post, it looks like you are relatively new to the car and the clutch problems can probably be blamed on the previous owner. Don't get carried away with high performance modifications that you don't need.

I'm just going to go with a stock replacement. Like MichaelL stated, I'm new to the car and don't plan to track it much. An occasional AX and maybe a DE or two. I'm not at a place in life where dropping a bunch of money into a hobby of that level of commitment makes sense. I see the value in learning to push the car to the limits on a designated area and plan on learning how to handle it better but as far as turning into a weekend track junkie, it's just not in the cards right now.

Oh man, give it some time and you will swallow $1900 as a peanuts... I am already over $10K for this season alone and it keeps coming. It is a major money eater.

Well, got the car back with a brand new clutch in it. Wow, I can't believe how different it feels. My clutch must have been shot. The clutch grips right towards the bottom of the pedal now instead of 1/2 way. The feel is much smoother as well instead of this hard spot.

All in all it was $1800 with my PCA 20% off ecoupon.

My clutch is gripping towards the end of high end... I will drive it until it is completely gone.

That is strange. The clutch on the 997 is self-regulating - its take up point should not vary much.

I dunno... Taking off on a ramp is getting harder and harder, even on normal surface. It is not sensitive.
