Mods for torque? Also, 1st gear swap question

I love the idea of turning my 06 C4S into a bit of a sleeper, but turbo really isn't my thing. I guess I'm just accustomed to city shifting around 3.5k rpms instead of hitting my power band there. What kind of mods are there that would beef up the lowend torque, or just deliver power lower in the powerband.

Also, does anyone swap out their first gear for something taller? I feel like the interval is too large between 1st and 2nd, and shifts aren't butter like they are with other gears because the rpms have too far to drop. Would something about 25% closer to 2nd gear be more in relationship with the other gears?

You want torque but a taller 1st gear...hummm that is not the correct way to go about this. Shorter gears or smaller diamter tires will give you faster accelleration times. But if you want to move the torque band lower you are going to have to tear the engine and transmission apart. The Porsche Boxter flat 6 engine is a high reving engine so your torque band starts to really come into play above 4500rpm. If you want very low end torque with no turbo go get a Vette.

You could try a Super Charger, it will give you boosted power with out a lag. Add some light weight wheels to give you a little quicker acceleration. I have added a LWFW, but that is for getting your engine to the higher revs.

The reality is, I don't think that a Porsche is ever going to be a sleeper.

To me, they go together, I feel like I'm needlessly working the engine if I'm revving high for whatever reason. Maybe I just need to be told that's what the engine's made for.

Perhaps I shouldn't use the term sleeper, or qualify what I'm looking for... I'm not looking to race, just tailor things more to be my ideal machine. I am always leaning into the peddle at 2.5k and it doesn't start digging until 3.5 when I'm about ready to shift around town...

Now we're talking, any recommended breeds?

What !? !?! ?!?!?!

You shouldn't be shifting until just before red line. You should never go below 3k RPM except to get the car going from a stop.

Driving it right will give you way more power boost than any mod !

I rev my engine all the time, they are happier when worked hard.

As for SC's PM Justatoy or Cattman, they are the experts on this forum.

Personally I find this car has a lot of power, they just need to be driven the way they were designed. I don't think the Porsche is an off the line car, it is a high revving great handling car, that when driven properly is faster then almost any car on the road.

Like I was trying to explain....the engine is not designed for super low end torque...like a american V8 is...likewise a american V8 is not designed as a super high reving engine either....so you either need to rev it higher and get it on the cam into the engines designed torque band or put a Turbo and Super Charger on it for noticable power increase.

I drive fairly docile on the street but I track the heck out of my car....full days at the track not under 4k rpms most of the time spent at 5000-7400rpm...zero issues.

Under 4000 RPM is for warm up and cool down laps, otherwise I am pushing closer to 8000 RPM with the Softronic Flash.

You're remolding my mind I tell you.

Alright, so on your regular drive to work, where's your average accelerating shift point? 4.5? 5.5k when getting into it?

I drive calm on the street and tend to shift at around 3-4krpm depending on what I'm doing. I hardly ever rev it up on the street unless I really need to merge out into traffic. Then if I do I will get it up to aroudn 5krpm where the torque is. I can't afford speeding tickets.

No traffic, 6000-7000RPM (morning drive at 6am), traffic 3,000RPM (afternoon drive 6PM). As Mike is saying these cars need to be revved to get to the hp/tq and they respond well to being driven harder.

I guess you have more self control, I am kind of like Jim Carrey in Bruce Allmighty when he gets the open road in the Saleen!

Yes self control....I drive a lot for my job and can not afford tickets or my license being pulled. I see more cops out on the roads looking for speeders than ever before so I am careful. The speeding laws are now stricter than ever before. On the highway I normally drive at around 75-76 in a 70mph zone. On the town and city streets I do around the speed limit.

Last night my wife and I had to take our little dog for a 2 hour ride around Tampa due to all the fireworks going off in our neighborhood. I had 2 Honda's with fart cans, a Mustang, a 7 series BMW, a 6 series convertible BMW and a Toyota Tundra try to race me. All of this with in 2.5 hours of driving around Tampa. They would pull up and take off and drop back and take off...over and over and pull up at the stop light and rev the engine. It is tempting to "show'em" but I leave the speed for the track. As we were pulling into the neighborhood my wife said wow good job!

+1. I give em a couple revs of the Borla at the light but let them do the screeching off at the turn of green.

I may drive fast, but it is at a time when not many are around. The drive home is with the flow of traffic. I also don't race anyone, I have nothing to prove.
