Durametric

I got my new Durametric Professional's Cable today. It was my 10 year anniversary present. The wife got diamonds and I got my precious diagnostic tool!

I just wanted to report that it works great - Easy to install and operate. I don't understand about 99% of the program it but I was able to turn off my cheesy daytime running lights and the annoying seat belt chime (See previous rant).

If anyone wants to use it come on by. I'm in the Edmond, Oklahoma area. You'll make me feel better about spending $700+ for what might be a one-time use cable.

Pro version is required for all functions of 6.0B (ie changing control module settings a la PIWIS.)

Yessir. I wanted to be able to do more than read and reset some codes. The pro cable and software version 6 allows actual programming. And I am so happy I bought it too because now I'm happy as a clam every time I get in and there's absolute silence from what was the seat belt bongs. High price to pay for that and turning off the daytime running lights I know, but my local dealer said they wouldn't de-program the chime because of pseudo-safety concerns (read liability).

Gotcha...understand.

What else can you turn off...ie PSM?????

I like the LED running lights myself and I never realy hear the seat belt chime because I put my belt on and then start the car...guess that is my habit.

I wish I had a neighbor like you...no one near me in my neighborhood is into cars or doing a little work on their own. Even my track friends do not swap out their own brake pads and so forth.

Doesn't PSM shut off with the console button?

You can turn off PASM, reprogram the side markers to blink, shut off the airbag sensors (ie racing seats) turn off the "no seatbelt" chime, program in the multifunction steering wheel.

Seat belt chime and airbag sensor shutoff are important functions for owners who have trouble getting dealerships to do it for them (many won't turn off airbag sensors for fear of liability.)

By hitting the PSM button on a Carrera, Carrera S or Turbo it does not exactly turn all the way off. PSM will still come on even if the button has it off. I run into this sometimes at the track and especially at Daytona on the 31 degree high banks where I get PSM failure as it freaks out at over 130mph on the banking.

I would love to be able to totally dis-arm PSM and TPMS for the track.

Really? You can do this with the Durametric? That is almost a good reason to get it. Pays for half the cost.

Did the OP or anyone else find more uses for the Durametric? I am tempted to see what other programming can be done.

I have been researching programing on the BMW side and you can program a slew of options. Many are being discovered as people query the modules and activate each function to find out what they do. (Some examples are: enabling closing all window function that is disabled on US cars, having all types of lights go on for the "welcome home" function, closing sunroof when the rain sensor detects rain, etc.) Does the Durametric command console allow you to query modules directly or are you pretty bound within the program that is provided by them?

$700 to turn off the seat belt chime is worth it - If I could program the sunroof to close automatically when the ignition is turned off, I'd say it was a bargain.

Randy,

You can actually turn off the LED running lights on the dash using the left lower stalk and find lights under setup menu.
