Question off topic: AUDI or LEXUS?

Hey fellows,

I recently bought a 997tt 6speed. I am looking for a dd in the worst traffic/roads in the world, Taiwan Taipei. I have budget concern, since I gotta save up mods for the tt. I am BMW fan but the price and option are just plain stupid. So I thought I gave A4 TFSI 2.0 turbo with S tronic a try. Interior looks and feels nice, dual clutch is lovely, 0 ~ 100km is 1.9 sec faster than the IS250. I actually like the look of the IS250 better but already played out. It is on market since 05. IS's interior is kind of small, power and gearbox is crap compare with the A4. Nice stereo, navi, and other options. After all it is a japanese car. I have been driving for a decade and only my first car was a jap car. But I don't know. It's cheaper to own one and 4 years of warranty compare with 3 years by Audi. I assume parts are cheaper too!

AUDI A4 faster, dual clutch, quattro, european car, bigger space, crappier stereo, no navi, still a 4 banger. 1 year warranty less than IS250, Costs $8kusd more.

LEXUS IS250, Better options, stereo, navi, keyless, etc. I like FR setting, 6 cylinders engine but no power imo, normal gearbox, 4 years warranty, MKIII IS will be out 1.5 years? But it's $8kusd cheaper

What will you take? I still have a lovely tt 6speed and the mods are on it's way!

Another thought-- this car is a fun japanese daily driver, if you can find one, -- a used (like 2007-2009) subaru legacy GT turbo sedan. Cheap, fun, great interior if leather, lots of character, dependable, safe. 2009 is the best model year.
The current new model isn't so hot though.

IS250 is REALLY slow.
I'd go for the A4 over it.

The audi does have a higher quality cabin and feels... wel.. more German. Also you can get a nice horsepower bump in the A4 with a simple re-flash. I owned a 2007 A4 and will say that it would make a great car to compliment your TT. Personally. I like the Avant.

Neither.

If the BMW prices you out then everything below it is second best so you may as well save all the money and buy a Honda Civic . I have the Honda Si and its a great car .
They are inexpensive , safe, practical. hold value , and reliable .

Audi. I've had an A4 previously and liked it. No issues. Great looking interior. Well built.
I can't get myself to consider the Lexus brand. I mean no offense to anyone but the Lexus seems like a Japanese Cadillac. I can't do either. Lexus or Cadillac, that is. I have no trouble with a Japanese car in general.

Hi Euro, I am in Taipei City right now visiting my parents. If you like A4, I might sugest you take a look at A3 2.0T. That my daily driver in Los Angeles. The combination of DSG and 2.0T engine is really great for stop and go traffic. It feels very athelatic. Check it out if you dont mind hatchback. Or I will pick the A4. JMHO....

BTW, how you going to drive 997tt with 6 speed in Taipei's traffic????

echere88,

Thanks for the opinion! I guess I will pick the A4. Just step on the gas and throw in the gears and drive!

I would take Lexus LS. Not Lexus IS. Or at very least - GS.

Go and try LS, if you`ll feel it is a car for you - get it and you will love it. That is what grand sedan is all about. If you just need a small car to get all around - A4 is an ok car but frankly, I think it has no soul at all. bmw m3 makes a great DD.
