I just purchased a XM module from ebay, aftermarket antenna and 955.044.900.81 - Electric wire harness for satellite radio for vehicles with no CD changer. I have a 06 Cayenne with Nav and no changer. I am having troubles with this install. I have a power lead and the Optical wire in the L side of the trunk but I am not sure how to install the harness to the those two wires. Could you please talk to me on the phone? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you soo much.

 

Okay all. Live and learn. Turns out...that the harness has a cover that needs to be pulled out before plugging into the car's optical cable. Problem solved. Now I need to find a fakra antenna with dual lead. Any suggestions other than the one quoted earlier?

 

man... if cover in plug makes you go nuts - are you sure that this job is for you? maybe better find an acceptable priced electrician?

you said you have TSB - why dont you go exact way described in, step by step? there are all parts described, with numbers, what to do with them etc.

 

No I shall not give up. Last night after figuring out the plug issue I was successfully able to connect the harness and the XM module. The PCM even displayed the XM. Now I need a better antenna as the one I purchased does not fit in the dual pins. I have now ordered the same are the original poster on 6speed. I hope others learn from my mistakes! :-)

 

you should check your stock gps antenna - 99% it's alredy XM+GPS version. so you need only cayenne-specific antenna leads. I dont understand why you ignore tsb

Awesome post! I am new to 6SpeedOnline and I recently got a new to me 2006 997 with factory XM radio, but no Sat Nav. I got a hold of a navigation module from eBay, a deal I could not let pass. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea on the Fiber and power cables to the Navigation module. I see some people used a "Y spliter Fiber Optic" cable to split to XM and Navi. That seems to be the best option for me. Just wondering if anyone has part number and recommended place to get the cable. I would go to dealer, but there is only one Porsche dealer in my town and it is like pulling teeth to get any info from them since I didn't get the car there. Any leads on where to get MOST splitter and power cables on line? Also if anyone has OEM Navigation and OEM XM on a 997.1 C2 would love to see a picture of the location in the trunk with both installed to get ideas on installation.

 

what kind of factory XM? It wasn't available in the 997 in 2006. Was an updated PCM added?

Looking back the XM unit might not be OEM, here is what I am working with.

The XM unit already in the car and fully working is:

Delphi Delco Electronics SDAR XM
7L5 910 563 E
CRIN: DE008950006555

The parts I got from eBay are:
Navigation Module Part number: 997-642-157-01
Navigation Module Horizontal Bracket
Disc

Looks like the parts I am missing are:
Fiber Optics cable (Y, splitter to be able to feed XM and GPS unit)
GPS power cable
Antenna. (Not sure about the need of antenna as I have been reading online and it seems some people are using the same antenna for both XM radio and GPS)

I do understand the dealer might have to activate, I just want to DIY as much as possible as I enjoy it and to be honest I am a bit stingy


I hope it makes sense that I just want to add the Navigation unit without loosing the XM unit already installed and working in the car. Might not be possible, but it is worth a shot.

 

This is way beyond my expertise but if I understand what you're trying to do is use your existing non-NAV PCM for both Nav and XM. The NAV units as advertised by Suncoast are pretty expensive and from I've read over the past years, the only way to integrate XM into the factory PCM is to use something like this:

Maybe search Suncoast for 'navigation" and see if any of the parts you need are listed there. Ambitious project - good luck.

I just picked up a new-to-me 2007 997 C2S and am curious if the original DIY document is elsewhere available? Does anyone still have the PDF document and would you be willing to email it? My 2012 Panmaera Turbo has the full complement of farkles and the wife won't ride in the 997 until I add satellite radio. Yes, this could be a good thing for some, but it won't work for long. Thanks!
