997Supercharged at Road Atlanta
997Supercharged at Road Atlanta
Pics during two days at Road Atlanta.
These cars are built to be at 7,200 RPM's for long stretches, to run along happily at 170 mph until you approach a downhill 90 degree turn, breaking only 100 feet out, hard onto the brakes down to 60 mph, squeeze onto the gas through and out of the turn...
As for Road Atlanta, great track.
Pro:
-very technical, and demanding layout
-3 long straights, where 160 mph is possible
-12 turns
-over 120 feet in elevation changes, which are constant
-professional staff, cornermen, flagmen, full time EMS
Con:
-surrounded by concrete, it's easy to kill yourself

The Nissan GTR giving chase had significant suspension upgrades, and was fast on the straights and through the turns.
My hat is off to Nissan: their GTR is an engineering marvel capable of overcoming the inadequacies of any man, woman, child, or hamster behind the wheel.

Ps. with all your current mods, man, you GOT to do suspension now. put in jrz or motons and LCAs. it will feel awesome.

Yup. Basically prevents damage to the headlights from rocks, debris, ect.
Just noticed you have the GT2 wing listed in your sig, but not an additional front splitter. Do you have one? Do you notice any additional lift/lack of downforce on the front with the GT2 wing?
Yes, the GT2 style rear spoiler adds a lot of downforce in the back, and is not properly balanced in the front right now. However, this is really only an issue at extreme speeds. At Road Atlanta, I can reach 150+mph on the back stretch approaching turns 10A and 10B, so I do need to instal a front spoiler, most likely the GT3 front bumper, asap. And yes, suspension upgrades for sure, too.
Running at Little Talladega tomorrow, but it's such a short track that I doubt I'll reach extreme speeds. Suspension would make a nice difference at Little Tally!
BTW, I am still loving the Bridgestone RA11's over the PS2's.

Thanks for the feedback. I wondered how much speed you'd need to feel the mismatched aero pieces.
I'd be interested in your thoughts and times on TGPR. I took my '07 997.1 S and was able to run 1:05's there. IIRC, top speed on the straight before the esses was ~112-115, but required braking so hard I boiled my fluid in the third run.
What is your top speed on the back straight on RA? During the AMG Driving Academy we hit 145 driving pretty lazily (about 7/10ths). I figured you could hit 160-170 before braking into 10a.

Also, running with a proper oil weight helps keep things lubricated too!
