Clutch Noise Anyone Know What Causes This (VIDEO)

http://www.jaredmonaco.com/temp/Porsche997Noise.wmv

Can anyone identify why this noise is happening on my 2005 997s

This is with an aftermarket clutch
(I'll avoid naming a vendor, at least right now)

The clutch was originally replaced due to a hydraulic or pressure plate failure.
I had the Clutch Disk, Pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, slave cylinder replaced. The mechanic said I didn’t need a new flywheel.
A few weeks and a track day after, it was making the awful noise (Like someone blowing a horn). The clutch vendor told me I needed a new flywheel. So then I had a new flywheel put in. It was good for a few weeks, no noise, then it started again.
Any ideas?

I am not an expert but that sounds like the pressure plate has worn unevenly to me. I thought you might have had a bad slave like I did but that squeaks in the car not outside.

Also, can you recommend any Porsche dealers in your area?

In the past I would say that it is a dry or faulty pilot bearing, If you changed out the flywheel (which I don't understand) you may have the same pilot reinstalled.TO brgs make noise until depressed but I would have assumed it was replaced. The only other possible problem could be a clutch disc with a iron base.

hope you get it resolved

I replaced the flywheel only because the clutch manufacturer suggested to do so in order to fix the squeak. But it didn't. The pilot bearing was replaced.

Not sure.

Reminds me of the sound some brake pads make when they are not lubricated between the pad and caliper.

How long has it been doing this? Have you been driving it since it started or have you not wanted to?

I would be tempted to give that clutch a workout to see if a little wear would make it go away.

Good luck getting it fixed.

2 Days at Sebring,
2 Days at Road Atlanta,
2 Days at Homestead.

Honestly I thought it may just go away as it settled in, but it hasn't.

One interesting thing.... yesterday someone suggested it wasn't the clutch at all but rather the tube the throwout bearing slides on.
Does that seem plausible?

Have you take it to any shops to just talk to them about it? I would think that someone could give a better guess if they could hear it in person.

Good luck getting it sorted out.

Jmon,
I watched your video and it sounds like you may have the same problem I do. I posted a video of my noise, from inside the car.
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post3146185
The drivetrain on my car is stock. At the time, I was running the OEM brake pads, but without the dampers on them. (With reference to the post above about lubing the pad/piston interface. BTW I've not heard of lubing that interface before. Is that common?)
Did you ever get a resolution to it?

CMOS, I also posted this in your thread.... I'm sure more people will find this in the future:

----
I had an aftermarket clutch put in and that’s when it started for me.
The solution on my car was to finally switch brands of clutch disk to SACS. I have no noise now, but also the clutch doesn’t work (for potentially yet another reason)

Everyone that listened to my car’s noise had a different opinion on what it would be. I had lots of people tell me different things.

I have three really important questions for you..
-Have you ever had any clutch work done on the car?
-Did it start when it got cold?
-Do you track your car?

My personal Clutch Hell:
1) Pedal sticking down problems
2) New Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, slave cylinder $$$$
3) Pedal OK. Clutch noise starts.
4) New flywheel to fix $$$$
5) Noise still happens
6) Change clutch brands. $$$$
7) Noise gone.
8) Pedal now sticking down again…

Yes, the guide tube should always be replaced when doing the clutch. It will build up gunk and groove over time and can cause the release bearing to hang up.

Aftermarket clutches are hit and miss, especially a SPEC.
