Almost there! Thanks for your help everybody, turns out I just wasn't putting enough muscle into it. So I've got the filter and drain plug out and the oil is draining as I type.

New question: I bought my filter from my local Porsche dealership (next time I'm gonna order from Suncoast and save ten bucks). The box has the filter and a large rubberband kinda thing in it and a metal washer taped to the outside. I'm pretty sure the metal washer is for the drain plug, but what about the big rubber band? I don't see an old one that this is suppose to replace. Does it go on the filter housing as a washer before I screw it back in?

Thanks again for all the input! And next time I'm elevating the car. I saw a low profile jack at Harbor Freight I'm gonna pick up.

Yes, the rubber seal is for the filter housing. Take a little oil and lube it before you reassemble the housing. It will make it go on easier. Sounds like you are doing a great job.

Enjoy!

Its actually a rubber o-ring that replaces the one on the top of the housing. Its fairly easy to pinch the old one and remove it.

Make sure not to over tighten the drain plug or filter housing.

37 ft/lb for drain plug
19 ft/lb for filter

Also, follow my guidance in my DIY.... start out with maybe 7.5L and then check the guage. After that go just a little at a time. It will be frustrating if you over fill....

Mission accomplished! Thanks for all your help guys. I followed your advice regarding gradual filling Jason and ended up putting in a full 8. And I found the old rubber O-ring, I just had to wipe off some of the oil to get to it.

Starting the engine after the fill illicited a pretty large amount of white smoke! It cleared after a bit but for a few seconds I was a bit worried....normal? The car's been parked for about 8 days.

Also, while waiting for the oil to drain, I was looking around a little bit with my flashlight and noticed some wetness close to a hose to the left rear of the car, the hose comes off a piece stamped "RAY" and the wetness is to the right of the hose. There's even a little crusty deposit on the bottom side of the piece that looks wet. I took some pics and I guess I'll start another thread to see if anybody might have some input as to what it is.

Thanks again for the help...I'm looking forward to it going more smoothly next time. I can't believe my dealer was gonna charge me $250 for that.
