Alarm System

Anyone know if you can change the setting for the alarm system in an 09 S so it will beep or make a noise when you lock the car?

If it's possible.. how?

Man, I can't tell you how much agree with you....I really need the audio confirmation as I walk away expecially since the same button locks and opens the car. In my merc there is not audio but at least it is a different button. With my 09 I never know if I am locking or opening if I don't focus on the flashes (2 open, 1 closed)...drives me nuts

This gets asked every month. You can buy an aftermarket module to do what you want - OEM system will not. If you close the door and alarm the car you can hear the locks engage and the lights flash. If you inadvertently hit the unlock button after locking, the car will lock and alarm automatically after 30 seconds if the door isn't opened.

There is a fix. I think it is called smart top and it will give you the audible you are looking for as well as some other features (window roll up and down I think). I don't have it, but I have seen it on here before. Careful though, I heard it might void the warranty.

Me too! It's also, at least to me, hard to hear the difference between unlock and lock even if I pay attention.

Last week I came up to the car and it was unlocked. Oops. (Fortunately we live on a quiet street).

Anyway, I fallback to just pulling the handle after locking to make sure I got it right.

On our VW GTI I'm pretty sure the on-board computer can be configured with the flashes/beeps you want.

Ask

p.s. Didn't you get it backwards? I thought it was 1 open, 2 closed.

2 = closed (bye bye)

Close the door, push the lock button, door locks and alarm sets. So the only way it would be unlocked would be if you never pushed the button. As I said before, if you inadvertently pushed the button the second time to unlock but didn't open the door, it will automatically lock after 30 seconds. Try it.

Thumbs up

+1 on the aftermarket SmartTop module. I installed mine over a year ago and love it! Would definitely do it again.

BTW, you can put it in "bypass mode" for times you take car in for service. At that point it would be undetected by diagnostic tools.

It is called RemoteKey for coupes - works well and has a few other handy features like one touch passenger window, remote windows...easy DIY.

Yeah, it requires you buy an aftermarket module...Funny that such a highly requested feature, on a car with a computer that lets users select options from menus, such a choice isn't available.

Great gadget. Had one on my Boxster and now on my 997 cab. Don 't actually use the locking confirmation honk but it is one of the features available on the unit. Best feature for me is the ability to open and close the top with the key fob while the car is parked. Easy install and doesn't cause any codes to be thrown buy the cars computer. Worth the money.

BTW it would be pretty sweet if there was a law requiring all cars to be silent like the Porsche. (Maybe it is a law in Switzerland or something and that's why Porsche does it?)

I forget how annoying it is until I try to sit near a parking lot and am bombarded by constant "chirp chirp" sounds as people lock and unlock their cars. And of course one out of ten morons manage to set off their alarm instead of locking it ...
