Problems with auto-up windows?
I've noticed that once in awhile, my driver's side window's auto-up/down function will not work (meaning I have to hold the switch to completely close or open the window). Again, this only happens once in awhile; most of the time it works fine.
Also, for the passenger side, the auto-up will not work until the window is about half way closed.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. Or maybe it's a "feature" and I don't realize the circumstances under which it works?
thanks!

Your passenger side window is working normally......however, if you owned a cabriolet, the passenger side would auto from the bottom and not the halfway mark. I cant answer why, when I asked some higher-ups at Porsche, the response was, "good question-next question?".
As for your drivers side window. Unless you are loseing battery power the auto up function should work fine. Whats happening is your (anti-pinch) function is being activated and will not allow the window to auto up cuz it thinks your hand is stuck in it
The system works by determining how much amperage is being drawn by the window motor. The harder the motor works the more amperage spikes. Once the threshold is reached the system assumes something is blocking it and shuts down. I believe when this happens you will notice the window will stop-drop down and will not work normally until the the end positions are noticed by the module. To help prevent this, make sure you window guides are clean and there is no build-up of dirt on the glass. Some silicone lubricant sprays could help as well. If this is all ok, an intermittant binding of the window could cause it too. Adjustments are possible, Good luck......

On the Drives side the switch is dual position (passenger side too actually) - if you don't press it to the 2nd stage, it doesn't auto-open/close. Sometimes I just don't press mine right - that may not be your problem, but make sure.
Passenger side can be fixed with a RemoteKey from Mods4Cars. It is actually not a key at all, but a box you add behind your fuse panel that changes the window behavior, adds remote up/down with the key, lock-chirp, and a few other optional features - you can enable/disable individual features.

Issue with the Remotekey is that it only fixes the passenger's auto-up for the driver's side button. On the passenger's side it will still not work. (at least it doesn't on mine)
I wonder if it can't simply be reprogrammed?
(not by durametric it seems, but maybe a piwis could ?)
I doubt they would use a different unit just for the cabrio.

I decided to try the easiest possible solution to this rear window cab problem per Vinnie
(Qualeek) and I greased up the rubber weatherstrip on the convert top where the windows were initially touching before rolling back down, I just used vaseline. For the first time my rear windows now go up and stay up !!!! Thanks for the tip Vinnie !!!!

Glad I came across this thread, got a 997.2 and was going bonkers over the passenger window issue. In my previous Cayman, a quick flick of both switches would auto-up both windows regardless of the height. From the website, it does sound like the remoteKEY should fix this, I've been wanting one just for the horn chirp anyhow.
The intent is to deal with the possibility that a passenger may not notice you press your switch to raise the window, so it doesn't go into automatic mode until the designer (or the rules committee) estimates a passenger would have noticed the window's movement and removed intervening body parts. You can see this would be a real issue with an automatic feature on a switch that controls a third-row seat of a soccer van, though again it isn't at all obvious that a sports car presents the same risk.
And of course, this isn't an issue on the Cabriolet because the top is soft. When it's down it can't pinch anyone and when it's up it still can't. At least not hard enough to interest a trial lawyer.

Try to "teach " the window.
It may be losing the volatile memory in the window control unit ( contained in the motor) because of the voltage present during engine startup drops below the threshold, I believe it to be 8 to 9 volts DC. Meaning your battery is on the way out, or your "X" relay isnt cutting power to consumers during start up.
Run the window all the way down push the button in the down direction twice for .5 second each, run window all the way up and repeat procedure with the switch in the upward direction.
Another possibility is its binding in its travel which would activate the pinch feature, which reverses travel immediately. However that doesnt usually affect the memory in the window control unit.
