My Porsche sales guys say they are always basically forced to take a Targa in order to get other more desired models . They hate flooring them - they sit forever. Started with 993 and same for the 996 version. Why does PAG keep doing this to it's dealers ? Instead of a top heavy rattly Targa as an extra model , how about a deconted lightweight 997 Club Sport? ( have you ever tried to see out the back when a dirty/dusty Targa top is retracted back under the rear glass ?)

New 997 Targa
Darren .... Yes, the Targa is back & "they say" it's going in to production some time before Frankfurt Motor-Show Sep. 05
We might see it on Porsche Stand / Showrooms Sep.05
& if not, 100% in March 06 Geneva Motor-Show.

WHY???
Targas didnt sell that well from what I hear in the 996 series...
I never saw the point of it - it is neither a coupe nor a cab!! Plus, that glass is soooooooooooo damn heavy that it kills performance and affects things like center of graviy and handling...
Besides, on the 996 with the glass down you cant see diddly out of the rear windshield

Maybe they've engineered some new type of plexiglass? Lightweight, low distortion, so it's not any heavier than the coupe with sunroof. Just a thought. I like Targa's, mainly because convertibles take a lot of abuse here in the winter months.

Personally, I really don't like Targas. The fact that they have a targa top (just a bigger sunroof) doesn't justify the car being slower. And I don't even think that they look nice to begin with. Targa seems more luxury than sport, which is what Porsche is all about (at least I thought so).
Coupe or Cab. No Targa.

What's interesting about this car is that you can plainly see based on the shape of the rear quarter glass that they're using the coupe architecture instead of the cabriolet. If it goes into production using the coupe's more rigid frame, it will be somewhere in between the coupe and cab with regards to performance. The 993 and 996 Targas were both based on the cab with heavy glass in the worst part of the car, as a result they were the lowest performing of their respective model lineup.
