Software Upgrade

I know there are several discussions about this but I still struggle to understand the major differences/advantages of all the software upgrades. Do they not ALL do the same thing? I know each manufacturer claims different hp gains, but essentially they all change the throttle mapping and give some extra hp. I know, the GIAC requires you to physically remove the ECU to program so not a big fan of that. Anyone have experience with Revo vs Softronics which can be programmed directly from through a cable and does not require removal of the ECU? Is this a worth while upgrade?

Thanks!

i first did just the ECU and didn't feel any difference at all. imo, it's not a worthwhile mod on its own.

i wouldn't do the upgrade unless you also do the cats and maybe the headers, plenum and intake too. this allows you to take better advantage of the remap. also, depending on the vendor, they will charge you to reprogram the ecu if you do mods later, so better get them done at once, or at least ask first what the policy is.

truth be told i think that any of these bolt-on/ECU mods are of questionable worth unless you look at any power gains as being gravy on top of improved sound.

With some flashes you have to remove the ecu but this is not the case with GIAC if you go to a dealer. The better ones will take your car out while the computer is still hooked up and tweak it if necessary. You have a great one in your area (GMG in Santa Ana) who could best answer your questions.

I was told by Stuttgard Performance (GIAC dealer) that you must remove the ECU in order to modify it.

You're there, I'm not, but when I lived in Balboa a couple of years ago I was in their shop a couple of times, liked them, and am surprised that they would tell you that. Also surprised that they are now a CIAC dealer when they were so happy with Evomsit and GMG is right up the road.

I did full exhaust first since you notice the flash more when this is done along with it. Some flash vendors said the intake stock is fine that that exhaust (mainly cats) would improve the flash the most. So I just used a BMC filter in my stock box and then redid whole exhast. Once I got used to the exhaust and wanted more, I flashed with Softronic (easy breezy install at home) and felt it did a lot of good both to pulling power and throttle response.

Stuttgart Performance is not a GIAC dealer
http://stuttgartperformance.com/

They are and have been So Cal's largest EVOMS / EVOMSit's performance software distributor for many years. I would say not all software is created equal. Give it a try, if you are not 100% satisfied within 45 days, you get your money back. You be the judge and feel it for yourself. Cant beat that.

EVOMSit and Stuttgart Performance

Stuttgart Performance has been the Premier EVOMSit So-cal Dealer for many years. As a Porsche performance specialist and parts manufacturer we strive to offer our Customers only the best products available. Over the last few years we have dropped many of the so called "Proven Performance Product Lines" as they have not passed our testing validation criteria and quality standards.

That said, when it comes to Performance Software we choose EVOMSit. Our customers expect only the best from us. EVOMSit delivers in terms of real world performance, product development, long term testing, proper data validation, reliability, and standing behind their product 100%.

In regard to Re-flashing, most Porsche ECU/DME's allow both bench flashing and more recently Direct Port Flashing using EVOMSit software.

Hope that clears up any misinformation...
