Trunk lid switch ?

My trunk lid switch is not opening the trunk, but it does with the remote.

Anyone had a similar issue??

Thanks,

Vlad

Does it only occur when the roof is down? I don't have a Cab, but on my BMW, the truck release switch is disabled when the top is down as a security measure. Hope this helps.

Mine too. Haven't fixed it yet. The switch comes with the entire piece that runs along the door sill. Ryan from Suncoast has it. I've just been lazy.

I took the door sill off and the took the switch apart. It showed some corrosion on the contacts. It's a bad design because if you get any water from the rain on the switch, the water goes right in and over the switch.
One of the wires on the circuit board had a bad connection so i just re-solder it.
I put a bit of dialectric grease around it, works like a champ. If you need the details, I would be happy to help.

You are the man! I thought about doing this but have been lazy. I'm going to jump on it today! Mind posting some pics of the work? Thanks a lot.

Like a dumb a** I didn't take any pics. Scroll through this page : http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxst...l-removal.html

It will give you an idea how to remove it. Remove the small plugs facing the driver seat and use a 5mm allen wrench and just loosen the bolts( through the wholes that were covered by the plugs) that keep the sill in place , don't need to take them out! Then just pull the sill up.

If you are not electronically "inclined" (familiar with a multi-meter and soldering) don't waste your time! For $62 you can get a new sill and the switch. 5 minute fix!

Vlad

I took mine apart. Aside from a bunch of green corrosion which easily wiped clean, the contact pad is what look fried. Ordered a new one from Suncoast. Hopefully this cures it. Thanks for the help.

Unhappy

bumping thread

I have a 2006 911 cab, only 44 000 kilometers.

My engine lid will randomly open with the key in the ignition and even when I'm driving sometimes...I literally have to get out of my car and shut the engine lid while the engine is running and sometimes have to repeat this 4-5 times before it stays closed.

The thing is if I try and manually open the engine lid with the switch near the driver seat, nothing happens....

I'm guessing this is due to a faulty trunk switch assembly? All of this started to happen the day after we had the biggest snowstorm in recent years. I guess maybe some snow went into the trunk switch mechanism?

if you can open the lid remotely then I suspect the switch (driver seat) is faulty. The wires are shorting and causing the lid to open when you are driving.

Also, something very wrong if the switch can open the trunk when the car is being driven. That should be looked into since it is a real safety hazard.

There is no button on my keyfob to open the engine lid(rear trunk); only the front trunk can be opened with the keyfob.

When I try and open either the front trunk or the engine lid manually with the trunk switch nothing happens.

The only way that the engine lid will open is randomly by itself...lol....
