3M Body Armor
3M Body Armor
Anyone have any experience using 3M Body Armor on any cars they own? I’m having it done in about 2 weeks on my 997S Cab and not sure how much of the car to do. Obviously need to do the front bumper and the by the wheels, but is the rest overkill? Would like to do the hood, but they cant cover in a single piece so a barely detectable line would be seen.
Prices below…. Seem reasonable considering what it would cost to repaint.
fog lights $55 pr
head lights $85 pr
front bumper $525
front wheels $85
rear wheels $115
door stops $90 pr
bumperettes $50 pr
hood $175
fender wings $110 (set of 4)
Question is... does this stuff hold up, or will it yellow over time? Also, will a car wash destory it? Any thoughts.... thx

Are you happy with the product? Any drawbacks?

You do not need to cover the entire hood. If you cover the front quarter of the hood, you should be fine. However, the line will be there. I had only the front portion of the hood done; the line is hardly perceptable at certain angles/lighting conditions. It's obviously there, but I do not feel it warrants covering the entire hood.
The 3M product is good, but it really does hinge on the installer. A bad install will make even the best film look terrible.

a couple cars ago before i started using the clear bra, i had lotsa chips "all the way up" the hood w/out it. how could my windshield have been pitted (sandblasted looking) if only part of my hood was getting rocks?

I've never had a problem with hoods or windshields, though I try to stay off Seattle freeways as much possible. I believe 3M offers a windshield film now; have you tried it out?
