Fresh Air Targa -- Pics Attached
Fresh Air Targa -- Pics Attached
guys, i'm way overdue in posting pics of my targa baby. i joined back in december but between the constant snow and the solid odds in manhattan of getting punched in the face for taking pictures of your sports car in public, this was the first real opportunity to do so. i hope you enjoy them. this board has greatly enhanced my knowledge and enjoyment of my T4S so i wanted to give a little something back.
in terms of exterior mods, i think the only unusual item is the black colored crests. i just really like the way they look on these wheels and body. even better, i picked them up on ebay for $50 new.
i've got one story to share too, from just a few hours before i took these pics actually (that is, the last 4 pics. the first one was taken on my block in soho from my window). i've been spending my summer weekends in the hamptons, on the east end of long island, where i share a house with a couple other good friends and car guys. there are some very good driving roads out there. last saturday, after a couple hrs at the beach, i had just turned onto my favorite one, which is about 3 miles long, wooded, and full of great twists. i pulled onto the road slow and right away, a gorgeous gunmetal grey 458 italia turns on right behind me. he's about to go around me, so i quickly drop into 1st and go charging to the end of the road with the 458 a couple paces behind. when we get to the end, i turn around slowly to do it again. he pulls next to me, and i tell him that's my dream car and that i really admire the classy color choice (it's true. i'm a porsche guy but there's something about the 458 that makes my heart skip a beat). he asked me if i ever drove one. i said i haven't ever driven any ferrari. so he invites me to park my targa and take the driver's seat. mind you, this is a complete stranger and he's not only letting me drive his 458 but inviting me to do it on a challenging road. i'm wearing swimming trunks and am driving barefoot), and i find out in a couple minutes that the 458 has all of 900 miles on it. i drove the 3 miles back up the road and then 3 clicks back to my car. i won't review the 458 here except to say it's every bit as ferocious as you would expect. he told me its his 9th ferrari and the best driving by a wide margin. i believed it. needless to say that was the highlight of the weekend!
hope you fellas are enjoying your summer driving as much as i am. these are the days.

Thanks much Sameer. You're right I have been a total slacker when it comes to tires! But I'm going to start working that in...
Great pics Kona!
Have to say that car enthusiasts are some of the best people out there.
About 10 years or so ago I was on Maui and I rented a '93 Ferrari 348 spyder. I had been running around all day and I had to stop by my hotel to pick up a few things. I parked the car right in front and ran into the hotel. When I came out there was a teenaged boy (16/17 years old) and his family checking out the car. The father asked if it was OK if they took pictures of "my" car. I said, I'll do you one better. I gave his son the keys and told him he could sit in it and start it up (after making sure it wasn't in gear). The kid was overwhelmed and the parents couldn't have been more appreciative.
Fast forward to 2009. I am at the Gold Coast Concourse in Glen Cove, NY. Among the cars there is a beautiful Enzo. I am standing there admiring the car when an older gentlemen comes up to me and asks if I would like to sit in it. I told him I doubted the owner would approve. He holds out the keys and tells me it is his car. Well, just like the teenage kid from Maui I am grinning from ear to ear. He then tells me he has had work done to the engine (he said it dyno's at 900 hp). He asks if I wanted to start it. Well you cannot imagine the sound that made. Turns out the guy that owned the car is some super tax attorney from NJ and he often lets his friends drive his cars (he had a few Ferraris).
Was kinda of like Karma come full circle.
Sorry if I thread jacked a bit, it is just that you story brought back some great memories.
Thanks!

Nice pics and very nice car! Don't you just love the lines of these things? The stainless trim just does it!
Enjoy...lots of fun.

I love the Targa. Do you have any pics from the inside looking up? Never sat in one and was always curious what it looks like from the driver's perspective with both the top open and closed. Thanks in advance!
Great looking car. I am a fan of the Targa as well. I would also like to see a pic from inside looking up to see how open the top is. These are rare cars and I have not had a chance to sit in one, but I plan on it.
lacrosse -- i totally hear ya. gotta pay it forward with these cars. i hope one day to be lucky enough to do it with both a pcar and fcar in the garage. i think my favorite moments in the targa are when i take someone for their first ride in a porsche. but why anyone would mess with an enzo's performance is beyond me!
wolfnards and scooter -- i will take more pics this weekend and update as requested.
carlitos -- have the tire gel on order from griot's. i'm glad you guys brought it up since i'm sure it will be very worthwhile.
one mod i'd like to do this summer is repaint the emblem. i'm thinking "targa 4" in a medium to dark grey and the "S" in red. any other suggestions are v welcome.
