Anyone put a TT engine in a NA body?

As many regulars know, the engine on my '05 997S experienced an IMS bearing failure, and my engine is kaput.

Looking at my options for either a new crate motor, a rebuilt 4.0 motor, or maybe something different, I want to know this:

...has anyone thrown a 996 or 997 TT engine into a narrow-body 997S? It would obviously require a lot of custom work, a TT wiring harness, and perhaps some impossible ECU work, but is there anyone out there who has tried it?

Would there be an issue with the transmission bolting up on this? I'm sure someone knows that part of the equation.

Glad to see that you are thinking about keeping the car. A new heart with a healthier pulse should prove interesting. Good luck with whichever path you follow on the engine.

How much does a Mezger engine cost? Not much less than $50k as a refurb.

Yikes, 35-50K. I already told you my solution! You could also rebuild yours using the lower CR forged pistons and add a turbo kit for 10K. You could sell your S/C to recoup some $.

There is a forum member in the Turbo section whose car is a very interesting project . It's a highly tuned 997 Turbo in a Gt3RS body . https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-pictures.html

It's not simple or cheap . Easier to buy a Turbo or gt2.

Along with the issues you've already identified, you'll have to find a place to stuff the intercoolers in to.

anything is possible as long as you have a huge wallet.
For sure! Air to water is very popular on a lot of factory turbo and s/c applications. On the NB 911 in the 3rd radiator location!

I already have an air to water intercooler and 3rd radiator, with lines and 2nd pump in place.

Look, I am absolutely willing to be a guinea pig or Frankenstein for any builder, I have my '87 Carrera 3.2 to tool around in, but my wallet has a cap. I might perhaps solicit bids for what is possible at the $25k limit. Let me loan my car to whomever has an idea, and share the risk with them.

What say ye?
