What to do with my faded calipers?
What to do with my faded calipers?
Howdy
I recently picked up a 997 black carrera, 2006, 31k miles.
But the calipers are faded black, kind of look rough.
I'd like to have them repainted.
Or exchanged for painted ones.
ARe they any "Exchange" programs or anything?
if not, what kinds of shops would fix these babies up for me?
I live in Minneapolis.

Your two best options are:
1. take the calipers off and get them professional powder coated, then apply the PORSCHE decal available easily many places online, then have them clear coated.
2. Buy a kit and DIY with special paint available on pelican.
Either way, you can pick any color you want, and need not stick with black. I've some some cool orange calipers, bright green, etc. but you may want to avoid red or yellow as some might consider that "poseur", as the red Porsche calipers are for the Carrera S, and the yellow are for Porsche's ceramic brakes. It's your car, so really it's your decision.
Good luck, please post pics of before and after.

Yeah I was just thinking silver or black for em.
I cannot take them off myself as I do not have the tools and live in a loft in an urban area.
I'd like to just take the car somewhere and have them do it for me.

Hi, I bet we're neighbors, I live right across the Hennipen Ave bridge...
Best bet is to bring them to a body shop (you can get the decals from Suncoast), I've had great luck with Hagen's on Lyndale. Carousel and Maplewood use LaMettry's for bodywork.
If you see a grey 997 or black Cayenne S give a wave!

There are guys that can come out to your place and they will take em off, paint them, put the decal on, and clear all in a morning. Not horribly expensive either. Do a search in your area or call your local Porsche Dealer up and ask them who they use.
I would actually paint them yellow, although i have the regular 997.2...
If i do that then my car will match exactly my wallpaper which is the 997.2 from the website... Silver with yellow brake calipers! LOL

Search for calipers or painted calipers and you'll find many DIY threads. I painted mine while they were still on the car and they came out great. I used hi temp gloss red paint, put the sticker on and clear coated them. No need to take them off, just mask everything up. It took me about 8 hours to do all 4 from start to finish. It's not a difficult job at all. Hint, cut a hole in a large trash bad and slip it over the disc so only the caliper shows, then mask the rest up.
