How do you launch fast and effectively on a 6speed man shift?
I have a feeling I'm not driving my car how it is meant to be driven, especially at launch. Does anyone here have tips on how to launch it fast and effectively without me smelling my burned clutch? or replacing my clutch in a few launches? haha
Thanks in advance.

yes you can easily burn down clutch. method to start 'drag' style is same on all cars - you depress clutch, then engage gear, start releasing clutch until very first point where RPMs start to decrease and clutch disk engages, then press down just a hair, get rpms to 6K then drop clutch and simultaniously press gas to the floor.
car will 'hop' on rear axle and propell forward. during this it may brn clutch disk, also it may brake off 1st gear tooth (means complete new gearbox). it isa bit safer to start from 4K rpm than from 6K rpm. it`s your decision and your car.

Depends how aggressive you want to be. I have about 250 runs at the strip with various cars. I haven't run the P-Car because its not at all meant for drag's but with other cars i'd always do a 3500 slower than normal clutch release with half throttle. Right when i felt the clutch almost completely disengaged i'd hammer the throttle.
u will def get wheel hops in 997 if u dump the clutch out at 4k rpm and pound the gas.
not advisable since it causes tremendous strain on ur tranny.
its not easy to launch our cars since the real power doesn't kick in til higher rpm..so i don't really try.
but those few times i had enough power & grip to 'peel out', i blipped the throttle slightly and punch the gas as soon as the clutch was out.. almost simultaneously.

Launches are not what a 911 is all about. Work through 2nd, 3rd, and 4th smoothly, unshifting/downshifting on fast twisted roads is what this car is all about.
If you are after a rubber-burning dragster get something else.
There's launch control on some models with manuals (Turbo?) too. In any case, a 911 is not a red light racer.
Have to agree with the posters stating that this is not a drag car.
Besides it is much more fun to walk away from some once rolling. What never fails to amaze me with my car is its ability to very quickly go from 60 to 80. That never fails to put a smile on my face.

I remember when I was in college and I had a new VW GTI. One night, I pulled up beside a 911 w/whale tail (turbo?) at a red light. I guess neither of our cars were meant to be drag racers, but needless to say, he left me breathing his exhaust fumes! (Sorry for the thread hijack)
