997S vs AMV8

Which one will you choose? I just picked up the latest Top Gear magazine.

I really like the AMV8, its just 75kg more than the 911S with bigger engine. Anyway, I love the interior designer, Sarah Maynard, she is hot LOL!!

If you can find the $30K difference, love the exclusivity of the Aston, are happy with a car that performs as well as a 997S, and don't mind waiting for 18 months, then go for it. It will be a terrific car without question.

997S performance is superior to AMV8 - esp. braking and handling

MSindi how can you know that ? no one has driven the car..except Aston Martin engineers and they are very very confident that they have produced a car with at least equal ability to the 997S.

Not quite true

A little birdie in Gaydon has told me that Ulrich Bez has been INSISTENT on the AMV8 exceding the performance parameters of the 997S. Let's just say that the "Little birdie" is best placed to know if this is true or not...

What are they going to say? That it's not quite as good!..time will tell, and for the price difference it should be vastly superior..so it's already a failure?

How much do you pay for exclusivity?

The AMV8 maybe quicker and a better handler than the 997S, but so is a chipped Mitsubi for $000's less. You still bought the Porsche despite knowing other cheaper cars were faster, so what's your argument?

No argument just questions!

But I don't think Mitsubi was targeting Porsche or vice versa..further, if AM is targeting Porsche then they need to hit the target, not the target plus $30K otherwise the comparison is less valid and, as mentioned above, it becomes an AM versus TT.

The C6 is just as fast if not faster than both of these cars and for tens of thousands less.

And the Z06 will be faster still than the 997S and about the same price. And you have to bet that WAS deliberate on Chevy's part. So does that mean the 997s is a failure?

If Aston has done anything it's to identify a sweet spot between the $80K 997S and the $170K 430 as a space where some owners might choose to step up to something more exclusive than the 997 but less expensive than the Ferrari.

Performance isn't all things to all men at this end of the market. Providing the AMV8 matches the 997S in performance it will be a success. Much like the 997s matches the Corvette for performance.

If performance/$ is really the issue for you then the Z06 wins it hands down, whether against the 997s or the AMV8, and possibly the 430 as well....
